Its been two years since my last post and although I haven't posted anything, I've still been up to various projects which I'll be sharing over the next few weeks.
Little life update: I graduated with my masters from Juilliard earlier this year and I moved back to Los Angeles. Hopefully I can cultivate a rich and fulfilling artistic career here and share it with y'all.
When I was first approached with this project, I didn't exactly know what to expect. I sent in a rough draft with some ideas and the production team cleaned it up and sent it back with some modifications.
Prepping for the shoot in my overcrowded NY apartment
The original video was suppose to just be a straight up ad for the Alienware M15 (which uses a Intel processor). This felt a little dull and in the box for both myself and the production team. I mean literally every ad for a processor has to do with gaming and it just felt over saturated.
Prepping for the shoot in the studio
I proposed that I record a track specifically for this video and that the flow of the video would go off of that track. I settled on Bach Suite 3 Prelude and I recorded it the morning of the shoot. I had time for two takes so even though I wasn't completely satisfied with it, I had no more time to play additional takes. Below is the recording in its entirety since some of it is cut out in the In Process video.
A major part of this project was highlighting certain aspects of my daily artistic life and one of the biggest was chamber music.
Left to right: Devin Moore - Violist, Lun Li - Violinist, Lucas Stratmann - Violinist, myself
I called up a couple of my friends to come down and read thru some chamber music for the video and they absolutely killed it. The little bits of chamber music you hear in the video is just all from one take of us reading thru Schumann's String Quartet No. 3 with no prior rehearsal.
Gotta get the product shot
I would say probably the most awkward thing in this entire shoot was trying to say the entire product name in the least deadpan manner. I have to remind everyone, I have no training in acting and this just felt so unnatural. I think I got a pretty solid go at it after a couple tries? but definitely not something I'm planning to do again anytime soon.
Overall this was an extremely fun project and even though it was the middle of the pandemic, we managed to get everything we needed with minimal problems.
