¿Quién es Richard Branson?
Richard Charles Nicholas Branson, nacido en Londres en 1950, empezó su mítica carrera con apenas 20 años de edad, al fundar en 1970 la empresa multinacional Virgin. La que fuera la piedra angular de Virgin Group, que abarca rubros tan diversos como:
- Música;
- Medios de comunicación audiovisuales;
- Telefonía móvil;
- Transporte aéreo y terrestre;
- Vuelos espaciales;
- Incluso la bebida refrescante, Virgin Cola.
Durante su adolescencia tuvo que afrontar problemas en la escuela y la secundaria debido a la dislexia. Con algo de dificultad logró finalizar en la Scaitcliffe School, para que luego de varios intentos terminara abandonando el internado de Stowe School, en Buckinghamshire.
Su primer gran logro fue un proyecto de revista juvenil llamada Student. Para la cual recaudó 8.000 USD para financiar una tirada de 50.000 ejemplares. Así empezaron los primeros pasos de lo que hoy conocemos como Grupo Virgin.
Ideó financiar revistas, y otras publicaciones, como también una tienda discográfica con ventas por correo, algo muy inusual y arriesgado para su época.
Fue tal el éxito alcanzado que definitivamente abandonó sus estudios para dedicarse al rubro musical, al comprar una tienda de discos, un estudio de grabación, para fundar Virgin Records.
Con esta misma intención de crecimiento y abordaje de negocios, Branson logró agrupar distintas empresas de viajes, una compañía aérea para incursionar en el negocio de los viajes y transportes aéreos y terrestres.
Hoy en día, ha llegado a fundar una empresa para el turismo galáctico llamada Virgin Galactic (2004). Como también, ha querido demostrar sus habilidades deportivas rompiendo récords en recorridos impresionantes como la primera travesía en globo aerostático del mismo océano Atlántico (1987) y del océano Pacífico (1991).
En el 2009 aparece por primera vez en el Listado Forbes entre los hombres más ricos del mundo, como acreedor de una fortuna que supera los 4.000 millones de dólares.
¿Qué lo diferencia de otros empresarios?
Richard Branson es hoy en día fundador y CEO de Virgin Group, el tercer hombre más rico de Gran Bretaña, todo esto y más basándose en su esencia particular de hacer negocios: el emprendimiento.
Se trata de la intuición en no discriminar las ideas, probarlas, apoyarlas hasta convertirlas en un negocio. Esta es la inspiración que lo lleva al éxito y que, a la vez, nos inspira a todos para seguir su ejemplo.
