the town of Stavern is famous for art exhibitions during Easter, all summer and a week in the autumn. internationally famous artists are based here and many aspiring professionals and amateurs alike exhibit around town. Fredriksvern Verft is a seaside park that was a naval base in the days of wooden ships and is now a historical and cultural landmark housing a variety of studios and exhibitions in the well maintained charming old buildings. but this post focuses on the outdoor Easter exhibition featuring vibrant works of the youngest amateurs.
from the park entrance there's a classic alle lined with elm trees. each spring the local preschools and kindergartens are invited to participate, and are delegated a tree to decorate in the way they see fit, often with recycling as a theme
the primary reason for visiting the park may be to take in the spring exhibitions or to take a stroll by the sea with or without a dog but inevitably visitors stop up to enjoy the fantastical creations in and around the trees along the way.
some trees feature a collection of related works of art contributed by each of the children in the preschool or whatever
while other trees highlight individual styles and genres
regardless of style and materials, color, joy, life and soul adorn the budding trees
the unsystematic spontaneous nature of the exhibition creates a curious contrast to the authoritative, orderly and history-laden buildings in wood and stone
bye for now. come back for another visit soon
