the west coast of norway has many amazingly beautiful fjords. the longest is sognefjord which runs east-west with several smaller side fjords running roughly north-south. nærøyfjorden on the south side is particularly narrow and scenic, at the very end of this fjord is the small village of gudvangen.
this place is a popular stop for cruise ships but there is also a commercial car ferry from kaupanger on the north side of sognefjord. the classic U shaped valley is a clear indication that the fjord was created by a glacier.
i took this photo of the approach to gudvangen from that ferry a couple of summers ago.
