The tags do of course :)
But each community has their own moderators and/or curators. It not only puts your content among other alike, which helps users to browse and keeps topics sorted, but also helps you with the visibility of your post. Right now your post is only visible on your followers feed.
If you post in the community, it will additionally show on the community feed, so everyone that follows it (and not necessarily is your follower) will see it when they go check the feed there.
It is a win win :)

I thought I posted in the gems community? Perhaps I'm confusing my terms :)
Thanks for taking the time to explain this.
You did. Gems is very general though and all kinds of topics end up there. Nothing wrong with that as sometimes there is no community that will fit our posts.
But personally I think it is better to post in the thematic ones for above reasons.
Of course it is up to you where you feel comfortable posting :)
No problem :) Feel free to ask if you have any questions.
Very good information. On his first post or two I recommended Gems as a good starting place, however for film reviews I would join the fil community etc.
Thanks a bunch for helping the newbies 😁
It is always good to start somewhere and start looking around. I can only imagine how confusing it must be for newbies now.
My pleasure :)
