Process of Drawing of Cell Phone Tower

in GEMS2 years ago

Yesterday I decided to draw a cell phone tower. It felt weird.
Let's revisit the encounter:

There it is, right up there. Challenging me with its' presence.

For WHO SHALL OBSERVE WHOM?

And so we begin with a few lightly sketched lines, nothing too dramatic just a superimposition over the subject to get things started.

And then we fill in the top array of sundry items up there that are doing various technical things to the world.

After I then illustrate the second array of equipment that I don't understand but really, why should I trust it?

"Because I have to" is the unsatisfying reply as I make my way down to the third array of devices and projections.

Yes we're all captives to the system I think to myself as a slight sense of relief emerges from the act of drawing trees.

But actually trees are annoying to draw when hunched on a cinderblock in a parking lot. Anyways it's all rhythm based upon medium, the differences being in manner of degree... And intent. And volume and frequency.

This drawing was created as the cover image to an essay of mine titled "On Virtue and Signals" at my website aggregationalism.com
