Estas fotografías las tomé en el corazón de la Mancha, en el interior de uno de los famosos molinos de viento de Consuegra, esos que comparten cerro con el viejo castillo de la orden de san Juan, en el que los lugareños bautizaron como Bolero.
Es un molino que se puede visitar, y es muy interesante porque tiene la maquinaria completa, como se puede ver en un par de fotos: los ejes y engranajes que transmiten el movimiento de las aspas, a través de la techumbre; y la muela del molino, la enorme piedra que, con su movimiento, es la que muele el grano.
Las siguientes fotos corresponden a los ventanillos de la parte alta, justo debajo de la cubierta cónica del molino, que están orientados hacia los distintos puntos cardinales para permitir al molinero sentir de dónde viene la brisa. Porque las aspas y la techumbre son móviles, y se orientaban según soplaba el viento. En este molino, sobre los ventanillos hay placas de madera con el nombre de cada viento, según su dirección. En la última foto se puede ver que es el ventanillo del cierzo, el viento del noroeste.
I took these photos in the heart of La Mancha, inside one of the famous windmills of Consuegra, those that share a hill with the old castle of the Order of St. John, which the locals baptized with the name of Bolero.
It is a mill that can be visited, and it is very interesting because it has the complete machinery, as can be seen in a couple of photos: the shafts and gears that transmit the movement of the blades, through the roof; and the millstone, the enormous stone that, with its movement, is the one that grinds the grain.
The following photos correspond to the "ventanillos" in the upper part, just below the conical roof of the windmill, which are oriented towards the different cardinal points to allow the miller to feel where the breeze is coming from. Because the blades and the roof are movable, and they were oriented according to the wind. In this windmill, there are wooden plaques over the "ventanillos" with the name of each wind, according to its direction. In the last photo you can see that it is the window of the Cierzo, the Northwest wind of the Iberian peninsula
