Building A Work Station

in GEMS3 days ago

A couple of weeks ago Aimee bought an embroidery machine, because it was something she had always had an interest in, but also because she has some ideas for things to make and potentially sell.

It is a really cool machine, and it took months of research to find the right one. But, when she got it, we realised that there wasn't much room to have it set up in the house.

Luckily, her dad had been speaking about converting one of his sheds into a work shed, and the idea got thrown around about using it for a couple of different ideas they've got.

Here is one side of the shed, this is where his tools are to be stored, and on top, is a work space for other larger pieces of equipment.

Yesterday, after Kaleb headed off to creche me and him got to work.

His parents had an attic conversion recently, and had all of this chip board leftover, which was just waiting to be turned into something useful.

He had a rough idea for what he wanted, but was unsure if he had enough wood for it.

Here is Aimee's section, where she can have her machine set up.

She hasn't decided which side she'll set up, so decided against getting shelfing. Instead, she's going to get a kind of trolly on wheels, which realistically, will be much better for her.

It was a fairly handy job. We started at 9:30-ish, and by six it was more or less, finished.

It got a bit dull around that time, so I couldn't get any progress photos after these ones.

Here it is as of this afternoon.

The back boards were on last night, and we decided to make the tops double thick, just for added stability, and also the fact that there will be heavy enough work done on this, and over time they could crack and heavily chip if they were left as single boards.

Here's Aimee's side.

That chair will be swapped out for a computer style chair with wheels, just to make it easier to scoot around. Also, it'll be a bit taller.

It's absolutely sick, especially considering it only took a day to do. The place has been completely transformed and now a previously unusable space has been turned into a completely usable and useful one.

The next thing I'm going to do is get in and paint the room. It won't take me too long, maybe 3-4 hours due to the minimal amount of wall there is.

It was a really productive Wednesday, and now all that's left to do is clean it down, and get some of here gear out here.

Seems pretty cool. May it turn into a nice one!

Thank you

Nice work ! Now I know who to come and talk to if I need some embroidery done 😁

Too right, she's still getting used to it, but her first gig is making a couple of polo shirts with my band's name on it. It'll be a handy little job for her to get into the swing of it

Ah gotta love it! I absolutely love having a shed, especially when you get your own little nook for things like this. Good luck to Aimee! Hopefully she not only enjoys it quite a bit, but can use it to make some money!

It's really cool having a workspace like that, and I can see it getting plenty of use as we get further into spring, and then the summer. Yeah, that's the dream right, do what you love and try to earn a few bob for it
