Hello, Hive! After a year of being not-so active in here it's time for me to resume blogging. And to kick off my comeback, here are a trio of awesome, technically-proficient, headbang-inducing ear blasters.

The Band

For this edition of Metal Weekend, the band I've chosen to spotlight is Origin. They are a technical death metal from Topeka, Kansas. Formed in 1997, they are known for their impressive instrumental prowess, particularly the fast, sweep-picked arpeggios on guitar and bass parts.

Their current line-up consists of the following members:

  • Paul Ryan - lead guitars, backing vocals
  • Mike Flores - bass, backing vocals
  • John Longstreth - drums
  • Jason Keyser - lead vocals

The Songs

Picking the songs to showcase here was a tough choice, as all of their tunes are good. So, to make things easy I put my music player on shuffle and picked the top three. The shuffler didn't disappoint as two of the songs happen to be my favorites. And here they are, go check them out.

And as @detlev likes to say....

Play it loud!

The first earblaster is titled Finite, from their fourth studio album, Antithesis.

Among the three featured here, this song best exemplifies this band's virtuosity, as the guitarists and the bassist shred through their parts with deadly precision and enviable dexterity.

Damn! I wish I could play that well.

Next up is Accident and Error, from Unparalleled Universe, their seventh album.

My favorite part of this tune is the chugging riff at 0:54 to 1:00. Now that's something I can do well.

And for the last, this one is The Aftermath, also from their Antithesis album.

Well, that's it for this week's edition of #MetalWeekend from me. If you want to learn more about the band, here are some nice articles to read:

Nice. I've just discovered a cool band named Monochromatic Black. Do you know them?

Cool! I didn't know them until this. They remind me a bit of Arch Enemy.
