Hello everyone. Hope you’re all having a wonderful day. Today is tuesday, that means we still have a lot to look forward this week. If yesterday wasn’t good, don’t worry, there’s still time for things to get better. My birthday is coming, on june 25th to be precise. I’m feeling a little nostalgic cause this will be my third birthday away from my parents who are still living in Venezuela. Hopefully the next one i will be able to spend it with them, that’s literally my only wish for this birthday. To see them and also to go to the beach, which is miss like crazy.

Today i woke up early cause i have to do some things and i’ve been really wanting to make some venezuelan chicha for days. And today was the opportunity cause i needed something sweet for breakfast, i didn’t feel like having my typical salty breakfast. I wanted to share this recipe with all of you cause it’s something that’s very close to my heart, as a venezuelan, i would have a chicha everyday after school and i would buy them all the time. It’s pretty easy to prepare, there’s probably something similar to this in your country, but you still have to try this.

I wouldn’t say this is exactly how everyone makes their chicha, but this is how i do mine and trust me, it’s pretty tasty. I wanted to make sure you all can try this at home so i prepared a step by step explination on how i did it, with pictures of course. Hope you enjoy and try this at home.

INGREDIENTS

Rice (1 cup)
Water (4 cups)
Milk (2 cups)
Sugar (3 tablespoons)
Salt (1 teaspoon)
Vanilla (1 teaspoon)
Condensed Milk (optional)
Cinnamon (optional)

PREPARATION

First we’re gonna put the cup of rice on a pot with the 4 cups of water. Add the salt and the sugar and let it cook at high heat with the lid on.

Once it starts to boil, put away the lid and let it cook for an extra 20 minutes at a low heat.

Once it’s cooked, let it cold for at least 30 minutes.

Now we’re gonna start with the fun part. Put the rice on a blender and mix until it’s creamy. Then you can add the milk, the vanilla and the condensed milk. Make sure to blend it well enough so there’s no lumps.

I prefer to have mine with a couple of ice cubes so that’s what i do first

Then i put some condensed milk all over the glass cause how how they would do it when i bought them as a kid. Then simply add some extra condensed milk on top with a little cinnamon. And that’s it.

It’s amazing how can something take you back to so many childhood memories. Just by tasting this i remember when my father used to always get one for me. Sweet times that i can look back now and smile. I’m very thankful for what i have now and for what i had while growing up, sometimes it wasn’t much but i was really happy. The simplicity of everything it was very special.
