We arrived on Hengam Island and were immediately greeted by the warm, inviting atmosphere. The local women had set up stalls along the beach, each filled with delicious local dishes, including a tasty snack called samboseh. The aroma of freshly cooked food filled the air, making our mouths water in anticipation.
The samboseh was a crispy, golden triangle filled with a mixture of spices and ingredients that burst with flavor. It was clear these women took great pride in their cooking, using traditional recipes passed down through generations. Eating their food was a delicious experience, and it added to the charm of the island.
Aside from their flavorful dishes, the women also sold beautiful jewelry made from shells and stones collected from the island’s shores. Each piece was unique and intricately designed, showcasing their artistic talents. These handmade creations were perfect souvenirs, capturing the essence of Hengam Island.
As we spoke with the women, they shared stories about their lives and how they balanced cooking, crafting, and caring for their families. Their resilience and resourcefulness were inspiring. They worked hard to attract tourists, ensuring they could provide for their loved ones while preserving their cultural heritage.
During our stay, we also took the opportunity to see the dolphins that played in the waters around the island. It was a magical experience watching these graceful creatures glide through the waves. The combination of delicious food, beautiful jewelry, and the chance to see dolphins made our trip truly unforgettable.
