Fehendoo Island, Maldives

Hello friends, before leaving the Maldives the last island we visited was Fehendoo Island. The hotel we stayed at is called Tropical Village and it was located on the shore. That means we had the best ocean view from there. But this beach is not a bikini beach, so if you want to swim here, you need to cover up and wear modest clothing. The room had an air-conditioned fan. Since it gets quite hot in the evenings, air conditioning is essential. We had a TV, wardrobes and two safes for storing our belongings. Tea and coffee were free, while the minibar was paid. A Coca Cola from the minibar costs 3 dollars, which is not exactly cheap. The natural beauty here is open and, in my opinion wonderful. There are plants everywhere and there are also hangers to dry swimsuits, which I found to be a nice detail. The hotel room costs 135 dollars per night for two people including breakfast and dinner, so for two nights the total was 270 dollars.

The beach has lots of coral and rocks. But I think it's cool that the hotel is right on the shore. In the evenings herds of cattle come to the beach and you can feed them. The atmosphere is romantic and the white sand, turquoise ocean. And green spaces are all well maintained. Many tours are organized from here. We planned to leave for one of them after breakfast. The breakfast includes Maldivian-style dishes such as coconut, potatoes, beans, tortilla, omelet and sausage. Of course, there is also juice and tea. The breakfast view is excellent.

On local island beaches there are areas where bikinis are allowed and tourists can swim freely there. On all other beaches, this is not possible due to local laws in the Maldives. We used to go to a bikini beach near our hotel. The island is not very big. So you have to walk there, but the path goes through a forested area, which makes for a pleasant walk. There are usually only a few tourists on the beach and it is quiet and peaceful. There are no sunbeds for sunbathing and no places selling food or drinks. So you can sit under the palm trees and watch the sea. The weather is sunny and hot. And you need to apply sunscreen constantly.

In the center of this island there is a power generator station that supplies electricity to the island. Two out of the three generators are in operation. The mobile internet speed is surprisingly high and everything is clean. Even the trash bins are located next to the beach. We went to the farthest point to go diving. There are corals and fish here. But the water level is low and the current is strong, which makes diving difficult. In general there are organized diving tours and you can take boats to see better coral spots.

There is also an aquarium farm on the island where fish are caught and exported abroad. Although there are ethical debates about this practice, the fish are not killed, they are only kept in aquariums. The fish are placed in special bags filled with oxygen and sent to Italy this way.

The hotel offers a few activity suggestions including morning and evening fishing, beach tours, dolphin watching, turtle watching and plankton tours. We joined the dolphin tour. The name of our boat was Orka. We saw several dolphins in a short time and some of them were playing with us and swimming toward us. It was a lot of fun.

Alcohol is forbidden on local islands, but there are special alcohol boats for tourists. These boats have bars where you can drink in the late afternoon or evening. They are basically simple boats with tables and even cabins inside. A DJ plays music and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are served. There is even night fishing.

In the evenings we took some walks and bought Coca Cola from a market. The pier here is quite large and has been rebuilt. A big road is under construction and I think a larger hotel will open soon. However, the local population is small and the villages are compact.

Lastly when visiting local islands it is important to pay attention to modest clothing. Girls should prefer long dresses or blouses. I did not bring many modest clothes, so I kept wearing the same t-shirts.
