These shots were taken today on the southern shore of Lake Vesijärvi at about 9 am. It was foggy and cold, slightly below freezing. It's going to get warmer this week and the week after that. According to the 15-day forecast, the daily maximum temperature will go below freezing only a couple of weeks from now.
In the cold temperate climate zone where winter tyres are mandatory and where any sane motorist would use them even if they weren't, you have to be aware of the weather reports this time of the year. Driving with summer tyres on could be deadly in bad weather. On the other hand, you don't want to drive on dry asphalt with winter tyres with metal studs for weeks on end. It's bad for the roads and is detrimental to air quality.
In fact, because people can't be changing tyres many times over at this time of the year and in the spring, road surfaces in Scandinavia, Finland and Northern Russia are made out of a type of asphalt that contains a greater amount of crushed rock than in warmer climates. The mixture makes the road surfaces more durable but also noisier to drive on. Compared to motorways and highways in Finland, their Austrian and German counterparts feel smooth like the skin of a baby. :)

There weren't too many cyclists here today. The bike paths were more slippery than usual.

The weather out there is so fascinating and attractive. Lovely pics too :)
Thank you!
