I am sure sometimes you chit-chat, with your friends about a strange facts that may happen:
"Yesterday I was talking about X-product and the following day, ads tried to sell me this very product. Are they listening us?"
"I was chatting with my boyfriend about a di*do and now it's popping up everywhere"
I think it is pretty common and I know that you are aware many tech companies are collecting data in order to personalize our internet experience. Google does, Amazon does, Facebook does and it got in trouble. Cambridge Analytica? For whom forgot it or was in a sort of bubble I will resume you.
Cambridge Analitica is a British tech-company that helped several political campaigns in the past years and was accused of collecting user's data through Facebook and the research of Facebook’s users in order to create political campaigns that influenced voters, especially in the US.
My (actually, I do not live in the US, but this operation was supposed to have a larger breath) and maybe your choices were influenced by campaigns based on what you usually read AND NOT THE TRUTH. But it happened. Our personal information (not only our credit card) is sensible and a could be a weapon used against us.
Are you aware of what is going in China, for instance?

People are getting tracked in many ways in order to get a sort of score. If you are a good-behave citizen, you'll keep your rights, otherwise Chinese government can take you away the right to fly, sending your kids to better schools etc.
Before saying anything against me, I am not a conspiracy theorist. I just strongly believe that we should limited our foot marks on the internet. The fact is that we do not have control of our information, we do not know if it is safe, sold to another organization, an evil company, even to our government. I am not questioning about what these people do with my data, the only concern that I have is "What happened if the government/firms can use my tastes against me?". I hope my country will protect me against some Orwellian dystopia, but future is unknown and we must do something to prevent it.

Well, I am not a honest citizen, I pay taxes and
I HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE
which is fair. I am a honest citizen too. But there are certain parts of your life you want to keep secret. That's why you put curtains or you lock the door. To prevent people see and or break into your house, stealing what is YOURS.
Or why don't you type, here in the comment, your account keys if you have nothing to hide?
Concluding, I am not here to judge anyone, it's your choice, besides I am not that privacy guy who wanted to teach you why you internet habits are wrong. I am not perfect, as well. I have a profile picture and people can see my face. The only matter I care is being aware you are under surveillance without even knowing.
