President Donald Trump says that Microsoft is in talks to buy TikTok. While I am not surprised that Microsoft is a potential bidder, I do find it mildly ironic of having to choose whether Gates or China spies on us and takes our data. I am being only somewhat facetious!
Given the sentiment I have heard about how sad it was when Microsoft "ruined" Minecraft when they bought it, I am not even slightly encouraged that they will leave the app alone. Any guess how long before they try to squeeze some extra revenue from it?
Having recently purchased Activision Blizzard for a good bit of money, I guess Microsoft has stopped trying to innovate and just plan to buy what they want. Perhaps they have unused Azure infrastructure that would be better used to host TikTok. Regardless I suspect more bidders will emerge. Wow 2025 is starting off with a bang so far!
