WOMEN ARE NOT SAFE ANYWHERE, SHOULD WE CEASE TO EXIST?

Three pandemics, rapists, racism and Corona virus.
The last few days have been terrible for everyone following the news of police brutality on innocent black people.

Well over here in Nigeria, we are having it tough too with rapists, yes and these men don't see anything wrong with it because there's no law protecting women, no one is saying anything.

A 22 years old girl got raped and killed in a church a few days back.
Another 12 year old got raped by 11 men.

Most men who are supposed to protect us are asking questions like;
What was she doing in church?
What kind of clothing was she putting on?

No empathy whatsoever. Rape don't happen because of what we wear or where we are, rape happen because of rapists. The victim should never be blamed for any reason, this victim blaming is the reason why we don't speak up when we get sexually abused.

Do you men want your sisters or daughters to get raped first before you fix up and act right? Hashtags have been trending but no results, instead another man raped a 5 and 7 year old yesterday, so what was their offence this time?

Were they inappropriately dressed at that age?
Were those kids at the wrong place at the wrong time?

Y'all need to think twice before you decide to be a rape apologists. Stop asking stupid questions when rape issues come up, don't be foolish and insensitive.

A typical Nigerian man does not see rape as a crime, they think it's normal, you know why? Because of patriachy, they've been taught the world revolves around them and everything belongs to them. The boy child needs the same attention society gives to the girl child.

That same energy the society spends preparing the girl child for marriage and shaming her when she isn't married at 30 should be spent raising the boy child. Most Nigerian men believe rape doesn't happen in marriage because they feel they own you and even at the point of death, you owe them sex.

They think it's wrong for their girlfriends to say no when it comes to sex, you should be ready at all times and trust me, some will rape you if you say no and to them.

The whole mentality stinks.... We should throw the whole country away...

Secondly, rapists don't get jailed or punished for their crimes, there's no justice in my country, if only they were punished, others will learn.

When Sars and police kill our men, we don't judge or ask stupid questions, we lend our voices because it's wrong.

Don't let the ones online fool you with their wokeness, a huge number of them have molested someone one way or another, I'm just happy that some have decided to unlearn and relearn, they are more enlightened now.

Fatima was raped by her own father in Jos
An adult male molested his 3month old neice
The police? They raped women in Abuja last year and nothing was done so you see? We are not safe in our homes, churches, police stations, streets, everywhere!!!!

You know what this means? It means our society have failed, especially men who won't stay home to give their kids proper upbringing, they believe it's the woman's job alone.
Failed to protect their kids, sisters, wives, nieces, and every female around them.

Only few of our men stand against rape, we need more from them.
We are tired of saying the same thing over and over
We are not your sex toys
Stop raping us.

Powerful words. It is hard to believe that in 2020 it still needs to be said.

It's exhausting

Nice write up, just want to be clear on some words. Not all men see rape as a normal behaviour. In fact it disgust me and many more men. Its true that our justice system isn't reliable, but every country has its own flaws. Let's not give up hope and pray for a better tomorrow.

I didn't say all of them. Did you read everything? We've been hoping and praying, I wonder when it will get better

We have been battling our governments system from the days of our fore fathers. I hope in time, everything will be set right. When there's life, there's hope.
