Personally, I always feel more creative in the spring.
I say that, against the backdrop that I have often been told that "it makes the most sense" that the season for art is winter, when the days are shorter and we tend to be stuck inside — at least if we live in a part of the world that has nasty weather in winter.
On the whole, I don't feel all that creative in the winter. In fact... I'd go so far as to say that creativity is a bit of a struggle in the winter; I'd much rather be doing something like reading a book than try to be creative.
I think I feel more creative in spring because it is nature's season of rebirth, and I also feel like I am coming out of hibernation, and coming back to life.
From a strictly functional perspective, that also works pretty well because most of the arts and crafts shows and juried shows tend to be during the summer half of the year.
Whereas I don't keep great records, I am also pretty sure that the best time for selling art is late spring, after people have done their spring cleaning and are trying to give their homes a fresh look.
No, I'm not suggesting that we stoop to the world of "I need a piece of art that matches my couch cushions!" But just in general, we tend to spend more time making our "nests" nice, in the spring.
Try as I might to prove it otherwise, the holiday season (November/December) has just never been very good for art. Or not for my art, anyway...
The last couple of years have definitely "messed" with my seasonal cycles... since Covid restrictions pretty much kept us at home for a couple of years. I'm grateful that the restrictions finally seem to be lifting... maybe we can finally settle into some kind of "new normal," without having to constantly be "on guard." That would be nice!
Ultimately, I guess the "seasons" depend on each individual and when we feel most creative!
Thanks for stopping by! Do leave me a comment if you feel so inspired.
