The fort of Amer, UNESCO heritage site is a actually a palace complex. It was not the main battle fort but it is one of the most luxurious fort made till date ( after battle ready red fort in Delhi and Agra). 12 palaces are inside this fort.
Back in the day ( before 1730) the capital city of kings was Amer , which was a fortified city just like Jaipur. But shortage of water and rapidly rising population was such a problem that king, thought to build a new city to accommodate the rising population. And hence Jaipur was built. India back then had no formal architects as such who were expert in town planning, Then Vidhyadhar battacacharya, who was mathematician and vastu expert designed Jaipur. Which is only the second city in the world which has kept its original architecture even after 290 years.
The fort of Amer, is amazing inits architecture and luxury. I mean i don't call that a luxury. I felt tired after a round of fort. It might take 30 minutes from entrance to antechamber of king to reach.
The gates and the court, everything is so beautiful.
The famous Surajpol gate
The famous Courtyard of Glass ( Or the palace of mirrors)
It was said that This part of palace just required couple of lamps. As walls are plastered with mirror work. This mirror work is artistic and tastefully done by the aetist of that time. It is one of the most acclaimed courtyard and show the finest workmanship of that time.
Here are couple of shots of the courtyard. I shot these in sunset :) so the extra golden glow
The General Courtyard of the palace
this court yard was for general people, you can see its plain rather than ornate style of other arts of for. The pillar sturcture is typical of hindu architecture.
My last photo is of Langoor family which was roaming freely on the periphery of the fort.
