On this occasion we will talk about the Foreign body airway obstruction, corresponding to the acronym (FBAO).
La obstrucción de las vías aéreas es una situación bastante frecuente que muchas veces en su presencia no sabemos qué hacer y terminamos entrando en pánico junto con la víctima. Para que esto no suceda te explicaré cuales son las herramientas y cosas a tomar en cuenta que te ayudarán a distinguir la situación y te permitirá ayudar al afectado.

La víctima por sentido común hará el Signo General de Asfixia el cual consiste en llevarse las manos al cuello y rodearlo. Debemos evaluar si la obstrucción es parcial o completa, identificamos la obstrucción parcial porque la persona es capaz de presentar una tos efectiva, puede verbalizar y aspirar aire. Para manejar está situación, debemos seguir insistiendo en que la persona continúe tosiendo hasta que el objetivo extraño sea expulsado.

El manejo de esta situación se lleva a cabo colocándose de lado y ligeramente detrás de la víctima situando nuestra mano en su pecho e inclinando un poco hacia delante para que así con el talón de la otra mano proporcionarle 5 golpes entre las escápulas (Centro de la parte alta de la espalda)
¿Qué pasa si ninguna de estas técnicas funciona?

En 1974 un médico estadounidense llamado Henry Heimlich
creó una maniobra muy utilizada en los primeros auxilios para desobstruir el conducto respiratorio. Para ejecutarla debemos seguir los siguientes pasos:
- Colóquese detrás de la víctima.
- Pase sus brazos por debajo de las axilas rodeando su cintura.
- Forme un puño con su mano predominante y colóquelo con el pulgar hacia dentro entre la punta del esternón y el ombligo para luego rodearlo con su mano no predominante.
- Realicé 5 compresiones abdominales bruscas de abajo hacia arriba y de afuera hacia adentro.

In 1974 an American doctor named Henry Heimlich created a maneuver widely used in first aid to unblock the airway. To execute it we must follow the following steps:
- Stand behind the victim.
- Put your arms under the armpits around his waist.
- Form a fist with your predominant hand and place your thumb inward between the tip of the breastbone and the navel and then encircle it with your non-predominant hand.
- Perform 5 sharp abdominal thrusts from the bottom up and from the outside in.
Si aún así este método no es efectivo debemos alternar 5 golpes secos interescapulares con 5 compresiones abdominales (que en el caso de las embarazadas serían torácicas) hasta que la víctima expulse el cuerpo extraño o pierda la conciencia, si esta última sucede debemos aplicar RCP.
If this method is still not effective, we must alternate 5 interscapular dry blows with 5 abdominal compressions (which in the case of pregnant women can be chest compressions) until the victim expels the foreign body or loses consciousness, if the latter happens we must apply CPR.
Ahora bien en el caso de los lactantes niños menores de un año se aplican golpes interescapulares y para ello se debe seguir los siguientes pasos:
- Sujete al lactante con la cabeza y cuerpo hacia abajo.
- Apoye al lactante boca abajo sobre su antebrazo el cual a su vez se apoyará sobre su muslo, sujeta la cabeza de lactante poniendo el pulgar de una mano en el ángulo de la mandíbula y uno o dos de dos de la misma mano en el ángulo contrario de la mandíbula, es importante no presionar los tejidos blandos debajo de la mandíbula ya que podría aumentar el grado de obstrucción.
- Realizar cinco golpes secos con el talón de la otra mano en medio de la espalda (entre las escápulas) alternando con compresiones torácicas dependiendo de la complejidad del caso.

Now, in the case of infants, children under one year of age, interscapular will be applied and for this the following steps must be followed:
- Hold the infant head and body down
- Support the infant face down on his forearm which in turn will rest on his thigh, support the infant's head by placing the thumb of one hand at the angle of the jaw and one or two of two of the same hand on the opposite angle of the jaw, it is important not to put pressure on the soft tissues under the jaw as this could increase the degree of obstruction
- Perform five blows with the heel of the other hand in the middle of the back (between the scapulae) alternating with chest compressions depending on the complexity of the case.
