Self Introduction as a New Member

in GEMS3 years ago

My name is MBE CHRISTIAN IREM. Born into the polygamous family of late Mr Michael MBE IREM on 11/04/1993. Being the first child of my dear lovely mother, I was loved and cared for by her and everyone that knows her because she was a generous woman. Her generosity earned us (her children) the love and care of many people in the society even after she died.

As a growing child with lots of potentials and courage, determination and zeal to pursue my dream, Christian was faced with numerous challenges from childhood till late 2021. Such challenges include, the untimely death of my mother which greatly affected my involvement in virtually all that concerns me as a person.
As the first child of my mother with three living siblings, I and my siblings became motherless on 3/3/2003. From a very tender age, I have been staying with my maternal grandparents.
When the news of the death of my mother came to me, because of the fact that I have been very much closer to my grandparents, I didn't feel the pain much Owing to the fact that I have was already used to my grandparents.

My father who was having his first wife right beside him couldn't bear the shock from the death of his second wife as she was his pillar and strength in all the business their were doing over there at Cross River State. Not quite long, on the 2nd of January 2012, my father joined his ancestors as well.
Being used to my grandparents from childhood, I didn't felt the impact of the demise of my mother until those festive period she normally come back home with my siblings. Those period was usually occasioned with new clothes of various quality and colours. As the first child, I was seen as everything by my mum. Till this very day, no one have ever shown me the kind of love that she normally Express over me as her first child.
In 1996, I was enrolled into primary school at Ozizza Central School Afikpo where I schooled for a term and later followed my uncle to Ugep Cross River State to take care of his newly born baby (Brendan). There at Cross River State, I couldn't start school immediately as Brendan was too tender to be left alone to the care of his mother alone.
Unfortunately, within 1997, I had a near fatal accident that almost claimed my life but to the glory of God, I was saved by a woman that later discovered my dead body. Details of the accident will be revealed in my next article.
Out of anxiety and worries, my mother later took me to her base to take care of me and monitor my health for the time being.

There at her base, I fell sick, after I was almost drawn in the river within those days at her location. This led to my permanent stay with my grandparents at home from 1999 when I finally started school at same Ozizza Central School Afikpo.
In 2005-2007, I had my junior secondary School at Onom-Ike Secondary grammar school where I served as the pioneer science prefect/regulatory prefect. Under the pioneer Principal of the school, Mr Nwagu Kelechi Victor, I was norminated to represent my school in cowbell competition in 2006 at Government secondary School Afikpo with Inya Patricia Ugwoma as my colleague from same school. After our junior school certificate exam, I moved to Ohaisu Community secondary School Afikpo where I had my SSCE exam in 2010/2011 academic session.
In January 2012, I had my computer training in desktop publishing at Katus Venture at No. 2 ukpa beside Ajuoyi where I obtained my certificate in hardware maintenance and desktop publishing in August 2012.
In 2013, I moved to Abakaliki to stay with my uncle so as to start a new business of my own. Due to financial constraints, I join Hyon DEA photo Lab to learn photo editing. Here was where my uncle was working as a printer in the lab. Within 2-3 months, I gained mastering in designing of pictures and changing of background. After gaining proficiency in photo editing, I moved to Alex Ekwu-eme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo where I started a computer program such as type setting, photocopy, lamination and other minor related works. Due to the low patronage by then from members of the academic environment both students and staff that were not actually not more than 250 in total, I started photography work with the students.

As the first photographer in the environment, I had lots of customers both lecturers and students. After the first year, One morning, when I woke up and prepared to go for my usual search of daily bread, my uncle called and told me that if I don't go to school before the next two years that he will not train me again. I smiled because I remembered that those days in primary and secondary School days, I was always paying my fees with the money I normally realized from mason job. Those days, daily payment for labourers was #400. This I normally do every Saturday to raise money for my fees and other minor needs as a child. Going back to school was a challenge because I knew what I will be facing there at school. After several thought, I finally raised money to rewrite my SSCE since I had deficiency in chemistry and biology. This was after I gained a contract with the Lord chosen charismatic Revival Ministry to snap them during their baptism on the 21/12/2013 at abakaliki. It was that same day that I had my baptism as a member of the Church.
After the baptism, the urge to pursue my academic career rose again with heavy force. I enrolled in Rich Continental secondary School Afikpo where I obtained my SSCE for the second time which is the one I am using till this very day. Same year, I obtained Jamb form and sat for the exam, after the results were released, I couldn't make it to the university of my choice.
I obtained an aptitude test form in Akanu Ibiam Federal polytechnic Unwana Afikpo where I applied to study Science laboratory and technology.
Due to the fact that I was not preparing to go to polytechnic, I didn't write mathematics in jamb as micro biology didn't require mathematics in jamb, coming to polytechnic to study Science laboratory and technology, mathematics was required as a criteria for admission into the department, I was offered Estate Management and valuation which I wholeheartedly accepted. There in the department, out of 102 students that were admitted, only 20 students applied to study estate Management and valuation from beginning, the rest of us in the department of estate Management and valuation were students that had same issue of not writing mathematics in jamb.

We started lectures which actually was very much strange to all of us in the class. Like I was earlier afraid of going to school not because of failing but because of the challenges in the campus, ranging from accommodation, feeding etc. I finally saw myself sleeping in the classroom for a complete semester because there was no accommodation of my own. Not that there was no available properties to rent, but the demanding factor wasn't available.
In a nutshell, I finally met with a friend who accepted to harbor me in his room there in the school hostel. We spent the rest of our first year together in his apartment. Before moving into room 16 there in male hostel, I remember a time I slept in an empty bunk in the hostel, this was a slot that belongs to someone that I don't even know even till date. At room 4, I met a friend from same village who was a member of the room, he encouraged me to leave the class room and come into room 4 since the owner of the bed space wasn't fort coming to occupy it.
The head of the room who was a final year student of Mechanical engineer department, out of fear of the penalty associated with the offence of harboring an illegal occupant denied his own brother the opportunity of staying with him in his bed space. After one month of using the bed space, the owner of the space who subleased it to a third party came and saw me laying down in the bed space, as a matter of fact, he went straight to the hostel management and reported me without asking me first.
Finally I quited the room and met with Ekuma Kingsley who accommodated me for the rest of the session.

After my national diploma program, I made it with a total CGPA of 3.36
It was difficult to get back for my Higher National Diploma program.

I moved to ogoja where I met my cousin who gave me some money for finish up my program in school. After my clearance and everything, I continued my program in same department. Lots of challenges still came up but not as that of National Diploma program because I had mastered the system and knew ways of sorting out my cases.
After 2019, I completely surmounted the the academic programs and submitted my project to the department and left the school on 13/12/2019.
At the end of the program I made it with a total CGPA of 3.27 after series of challenges with lecturers who were after my results because of the fact that I was after justice against everything that was going on in the department both in general and in our class in particular.
On the 2/3/2020, I was shortlisted for service. I had to rush and come back and do my clearance in the school. From Delta State where I went to look for money for my service.
On 10/03/2020 I moved to sagamu camp where I was posted in ogun state for my One year compulsory service in the nation.

Camp orientation that was supposed to last for three weeks was shorttend to 8 days due to the outbreak of covid 19 in the nation at Large. The posting of corp members into their different locations and in respect to professions where randomly selected.
From sagamu camp, I was posted to Ipokia LGA ogun where I was assigned to work with St. John's academic as an Economic and Provocational study teacher.
Accommodation was offered to me by the Propretrietor of the school which I accepted in luie for my already made decision to stay in Nigerian Christian Corp Fellowship Residents which was 30 mins away from my place of primary assignment.

The effect of covid 19 was much in all section of the nation. Corp members went home as schools at all levels were forced to short down for the time being.
50% of the service period was spent at home, lots of plans were shattered, at the end, on the 21st or September,2020 I went back to Ipokia LGA to complete my service which finally ended on 18/02/2021.
Discharge certificate was issued, merit award from NCCF ogun State chapter was issued, same always from NCCF ipokia LGA was awarded for serving as the Zonal secretary, treasurer and prayer coordinator of the zone.

From ipokia LGA, I am a colleague from Gombe state, Ayuba Musa Zephaniah, moved to Ota LGA to look for a Greener pasture before he was offered admission for his mater's degree program in political science.
Life at Ipokia LGA was really fun as many of us that were together will always go out and come back home together as a family.
