I thought it would be an early spring this year. April was warm and sunny, the grass was sprouting on the sunny slopes and the first flowers were growing, the buds on the trees were swelling and I was already expecting young leaves to appear in the next few days, when suddenly it got colder. It even snowed to the north of town, and we saw pictures on social media of dacha residents who went to dig their beds and plant their vegetables, but instead got their skis out of the storage to take a ride through the snow-covered forest.
The cold weather came at the end of April and continued into May, and it already seemed that there would be no end to this cold, but suddenly everything changed dramatically again, in one day the air warmed up to +25°C. Bare tree branches were covered first with a thin green down, and then with a more visible green halo just in a few hours.
On this first really warm, almost summer day, I went for a walk to the garden at the Academy of Arts. It's a small garden, where it's nice to stop and sit on a bench in the hot weather.
In the depths of the garden there is a garden building of the Academy of Arts, this beautiful building in the style of classicism was built in 1819-1821. This building was designed according to the strict rules of ancient Greek architecture for the students of the Academy of Arts, walking in the garden during a break between classes, to consider a sample of classical architecture. Later, the strictness of the architectural canon was somewhat broken by the addition of additional windows.
In the center of the garden stands a column erected on this site in honor of the fiftieth anniversary of the Academy of Arts. This column has a curious history. This column was made for a different reason - it was a spare column when creating the interior of the Kazan Cathedral in case something would happen to the main columns: if they would crack or split during careless installation. But there was no trouble, and the column was transferred to the Academy of Arts, where it found a new use.
A one-story stable building stands at the edge of the garden. It is home to ponies and horses that serve as models for students at the Academy of Fine Arts. Next to the stables, two girls went out to play badminton, but the game was soon interrupted by an unexpected obstacle: the shuttlecock flew onto the roof of the stables.
