Once in a blue moon

There is the saying once in a blue moon which can have multiple meanings I guess, at its most basic term it could be that the moon occasionally looks blue or a tinge of blue, but it more often means something like
To do something “once in a blue moon” is to do it very rarely, like catching a shot of a plane flying past a full moon
well I will be honest I was not lucky enough to catch a plane flying past the moon when I got these shots and neither was the moon blue, this is edited in photoshop with the plane silhouette added
so let me tell you the story of this shot and show the real shots I got, starting with the lens I used to get this shot, which I show in this next shot

This is the Sony 200-600mm G lens which I just recently got, not a cheap lens and one I wasn't really thinking of getting but my wife felt after our move we deserved a treat for each other and she convinced me to get this lens and I must say I do love it and have used it a couple of times, one time I won't go into now but it will be for a future post, and then on the full moon a couple of nights ago I tried it out and am fairly happy with these shots, now it would have been cool if a plane had really flown by or if there was some building I could have used in the shot to have more than just the moon.
Next up a regular shot of the mon, nothing added and no color changes

I took a few shots of the moon and it was nice to be able to zoom in a bit closer than i could with my previous longest lens on this camera which was the sony 24-240mm Lens, but I will only share two shots I got that night, and the edits

and the last shot for this post is where i edited the moon a blue tinge as I often do with my mono edits, it was only now as I prepared this post I decided to play around and add the plane silhouette

Beautiful shot @tattooedjay. Also I love the Airbus A320. (could be a A319) you put in. I moderate a pretty exclusive private aerospace forum group on facebook that would think thats one hell of a spiffy photo you got there. Even if it is a bit photoshopped.

Oh man, I was so happy to see that photo with the plane JJ, as you know that I have a few of them with a plane in front of the moon.
But it is a great edit and good to see your honesty, as many would pass that plane shot off as the real thing.

Wow, that lens looks a lot bigger and heavier than my Sigma, and as I can see on the photos it's a really great lens - I believe you that it makes a lot of fun 😀

it is heavier than the contemporary sigma but lighter than the sport model, I for sure wont be going for long walks with it lOL

I have already had a look, of course 😉 and it is quite a lot heavier than mine, especially when you take it for a hike or a long walk 😉 but it's certainly the much better lens.
I have changed my Steem for Bitcoin and wanted to buy one of the new RF lenses for my Canon, but I didn't. Now I wait for the Hive price to go down that I can buy enough to become an Orca 😁 … and then the Hive should moon 😆

So my Dad when he was still around, and once in a while when he felt like it, would sing a song that goes like this... "Blue Moon... you saw me standing alone... without the love of my life..." then I forgot the next lines.
I saw the first photo and it brought back memories of my Dad instantly! So thank you, my dear friend.

I have no idea why I thought I commented on this one when I obviously did not... I came back to look at the blue moon and how you did it, and couldn't find it anywhere. There I go thinking again.
This is such an incredible lens! I know that they are quite heavy, some anyway. It is a challenge for me to carry a heavy lens for hours and hours. I love the edits and especially the plane! :)

Ohh yeah its pretty heavy I think 2.5 lbs if i remember correctly, but I will often use it on a tripod so don't have to hold up that weight for too long lOL
Many times I am hauling it through the fields and hiking uphill to photograph something. I was actually talking about carrying it as opposed to the tripod.

well if and when sports start here I plan to use that to capture a coupleof the extended family who play, but i may well take it on walks from time to time
I can only imagine the sports shots! I need to get out for some too. I have gotten out of the habit with the work schedule. :(
Will be interesting to see if the school sports go ahead this year, may be something for next year

You know, just like everything else in life, it will figure its way out.
I know that here, there will be no school sports in the Fall, however, they are hoping and scheduling their return for December. I'm not sure it will even happen then, but, it is something to look forward to, especially with young people. Many are having a hard time grasping all of this. Unless death is right on their doorstep, and, even then, it could never happen to them.
You will find something else to shoot if that doesn't start. I know you. :) But, the Northeast has been a little bit less quick to close and quicker to open. I am sure we will get this all figured out.

Incredible shot, then using a proper lens, tripod and camera, some patience sprinkled on top and great effects using a touch up in colour.
Ingenious finding a plane to fit perfectly giving the blue moon effect. We don't get the big planes coming in close anymore, sadly I did not photograph when they did either, too busy with life and bringing up children.
