Florentino and the Devil is a popular Venezuelan legend written by Alberto Arvelo Torrealba.
Taking place in the context of the Venezuelan flat lands, the legend tells that Florentino was a local man with a strong character, fearless and brave, who in a traditional party was challenged for a 'contrapunteo' by a strange and mysterious man who could not keep up with him, during the story the identity of the strange man is revealed as the Devil himself.
'Contrapunteo' is a connotation given in Venezuelan floklore to the act of improvisation of rhymes and verses between 2 or more people that musically confront each other.

Desenvolviendose en el contexto del las llanuras Venzolanas, cuenta la leyenda que Florentino era un hombre local con caracter fuerte, muy intrépido y valiente, al cual en una fiesta tradicional llanera fue retado para un "contrapunteo" por un extraño y misterioso hombre el cual no pudo llevarle el ritmo, durante el relato la identidad del extraño hombre se va revelando como el mismísimo Diablo.
El "contrapunteo" es una connotación que se le da en el llano venezolano al acto de improvisación de rimas y versos entre 2 o más personas que musicalmente se enfrentan unas con otras.
In a series of make-up challenges I participated in, one of the themes was 'myths and legends', immediately this story came to my mind and as soon as I decided to do it I already had an idea of how I was going to do it and how it was going to look like.
En una serie de retos de maquillaje que participé, uno de los temas fué "mitos y leyendas", de inmediato se me vino a la mente esta historia y tan pronto como lo decidí ya tenía idea de como iba a hacerlo y cómo iba a quedar.
About the makeup there are many details that I will not mention because it would be a much more technical and extensive post. Instead, what I will say is that the most difficult part was the male face, and in fact I have to practice a lot more. On the other hand, I loved the devil's part, I made the horn with homemade fake "meat" made with wheat flour and the horn is made with aluminum foil covered with the same, also with the infallible black and intense red tones.
Sobre el maquillaje hay muchos detalles que no voy a mencionar ya que sería un post mucho más técnico y extenso. Lo que si comentaré es que lo más dificil fué el rostro masculino, que de hecho tengo que practicar mucho más. Por otro lado, la parte del diablo me encantó, el cuerno lo hice con "carne" falsa casera hecha con harina de trigo y el cuerno es con papel de aluminio cubierto con lo mismo, también con los infaltables tonos color negro y rojo intenso.
Below, I played a bit with Photoshop by duplicating and mirroring each half of the face to see how both makeups would look if they were on the full face.
Acá abajo, jugué un poco con Photoshop al duplicar y hacer un espejo de cada mitad del rostro para ver como se verían ambos maquillajes si es que estos fuesen en el rostro completo.
I would repeat the devil's one in full and I'm sure I would love the end result. The man's definitely needs a lot more practice.
El del diablo lo repetiría completo y estoy segura de que me encantaría el resultado final. El del hombre definitivamente necesita mucha más práctica.
Still the overall result completely met my expectations and I already want to have a new excuse to do a makeover like this.
Aun así el resultado general cubrió completamente mis expectativas y ya quiero tener una nueva excusa para hacer un maquillaje de este tipo.
