From excitement to disaster - moving chaos

in GEMS10 days ago

Some things never go the way you plan. And of course, they always happen at the worst time. We started moving at the end of December, and most of our stuff was already in the new apartment. The new place isn't far—it's actually in the same building! But this time, we have a garden, which made us so happy. Our landlord gave us until January 15th to move everything. Perfect, right? So, we packed almost everything and were all set to start our new life.

But... there was a little problem.

We were working for three days straight, and when we came home, we found our new storage unit full. We were like... what?! We hadn’t even moved our stuff from the old storage unit yet because we left that for last. How could it be full?

Each apartment has its own storage unit because the electricity is connected to it. We found out our neighbor had moved all her things in. We were so confused. We asked her what happened, and she told us that our landlord gave it to her because it was bigger. When she saw it was empty, she asked if she could have it, and he said yes.

Excuse me, what?!

The landlord had just told us how great it was that we’d have the bigger storage unit. And now he just gave it away? The problem was, once we moved, our old apartment wouldn’t have electricity anymore, but the fridge was still inside. And hers too. So we’d be paying for her electricity while having no fridge ourselves? No way.

( that’s why we need bigger storage) 😂

She didn’t know we were moving, and I didn’t want to fight with her—she’s really nice, and I’m not that kind of person. But we needed that storage. So, we called the landlord, and guess what? He told us she could keep it. Seriously?! I’m paying more rent because of that storage, and now I don’t even get it?! If someone new moves into our old place, we’d have to move our things again? This was such a mess.

I felt so sad. I really wanted that garden. The landlord said we had to figure it out ourselves. If we wanted to keep our old storage unit, we’d have to install new cables so that the electricity could work properly for both apartments—and pay for it ourselves. Oh, and the rent? Yeah, it would stay the same.

We didn’t know what to do. Our things were already in the new apartment, except for the bed, sofa, and TV. And then, something amazing happened. Our neighbor came to us and said she didn’t want any trouble. She said it wasn’t fair what the landlord did, and we should keep the storage.

Omg, girl, you are awesome. I thanked her with all my heart. So, it was decided—we were moving! This whole thing took a week to sort out.

( poor baby, she didn't understand what’s going on)

We called the electricity company to transfer the power, and—surprise!—another problem. Something was wrong with the cables, and they said they couldn't do it until January 27th. But we had to be out by January 15th! What now?! I was losing my mind. We called the landlord again, and guess what he said? "I can't do anything, I already have someone moving in." Oh great. 😩

The next day, he called and gave us one more week. We called the company again, practically begging them, and they finally sent someone to check. Turns out, it was just a small issue they could fix in a few days. Thank goodness!

But... it didn’t end there.

I was in pain (I will tell you more tomorrow), and I couldn’t lift heavy stuff. Then, my husband got sick. How were we supposed to move the bed, sofa, and everything else? And who was going to paint both apartments?

I called my parents. They were working. I called my brother—he was home but "too busy." We asked our friends, but everyone had work. Only one friend showed up to help move the big stuff, and it was painful to watch because my poor husband, still sick, had no choice but to help.

( my girl )

And then, something amazing happened. My husband's parents, who were on vacation in Croatia, called us. When we told them about the mess, they ended their vacation early to come and help us. I almost cried. Such a sweet thing to do.

We worked like crazy for two days. First, we painted the new apartment. The next day, we painted the old one. Two days of nonstop work. But...

It didn’t end there….

I’ll tell you more tomorrow, because right now, my hand hurts so much I feel like it’s going to fall off!

This week, we had so much chaos that I didn't have time to post anything. 😒😔

Sometimes bad things happen and worse they're becuase of other's irresponsibility. It's irritating that we suffer the consequences of another's insensibility. I am relieved that your in laws are available. I look forward to reading what happened next !BBH

I have really the best in-laws. ☺️ I can only laugh now, but as some people say, everything happens for a reason…😂 Thanks for stopping by 😊

What a chaos, especially your landlord! Hope you're settling down well in your new home now

I don't want to be rude, but he's 75 years old, and I think he's starting to get a little bit of dementia. We are in a new apartment, but it is still not over…😂

Ugh... chaos :(
