How My Seven-year-old "Sister" speaks English fluently

This seven-year-old girl's name is Tina and she is bilingual. She speaks English fluently and even better than her mother’s language, Vietnamese. Today, I'd love to share some stories about my sister how she can speak English fluently by herself. My young little Sister and I - that's a complicated relationship 😆. Tina is actually the daughter of my close friend; however, this lovely little girl wanted to call me "sister" instead of "auntie".Since she was 2 years old, she was very into watching cartoons on Youtube like Peppa Pig, Little baby bird, My Little Pony. She loved to watch them over and over again. It's the result of the educational benefits of watching cartoons on Youtube. I believe that's the way how Tina can learn English really fast. Kids are attracted to this type of entertainment because it is fun and easy to use. It provides an entertaining way for children to learn vocabulary, which will help them in school, as well as other life skills.

My sister has always been the bigger prodigy, she started speaking English at 3 years old, which is unusual because most Vietnamese children start speaking their mother tongue until they are four or five years old. Honestly, her parents don't know English, so Nikki and I often talk to her in English sometimes. It didn't take her so long to recite the alphabet, recite the complete word for all of her favorite animals, and count up to 20.

Since then her parents knew that their daughter had an exceptional gift. From the time Tina's mother realized that she was always able to quickly learn new things, she began devoting all of her energy to finding ways to nurture this gift. She purchased the alphabet and book with pictures for English learning and watched videos on YouTube. It won't be long before her daughter can speak English fluently- like a native speaker.

I believe that English is now her first tongue not Vietnamese, to be honest, and we feel like we have to fight every time to speak with her in Vietnamese 🤣. Like she translates word-by-word from English to Vietnamese and aww she's just so cute :)

Tina is really a talented little baby. From the age of six, she has been drawing pictures and writing words in English. The first word she wrote was "I love you, Mommy" and the day her mom showed me the letter that she wrote to her neighbor friend. It's so cute and funny that we couldn't stop laughing (sorry Tina 😁)...!!!

From the letter

**From Daniel- Her friend
Dear Tina,
I know I am the best friend you see but you got to go the bad friend and sometime you anger me! but I always like you. do you remember wen (I think "when") we is the kits (I guess "kids" 😆) We want to play with you. I always server you. But I'm a bit now..anger.. (sorry I can't read it anymore)

Dear Daniel,

Replied by her drawing 😉**

What are your thoughts on letting your children watch YouTube videos to learn English? In my opinion, children can learn English on youtube because of the multitude of excellent channels that teach them the basics. Many channels provide educational videos, such as how to read, write, and speak. With youtube, it is possible for these children to learn and grow as English speakers. However, parents need to observe what their children watch on Youtube.

Tina has first time made a video by herself to wish her teacher, who is in the hospital, a happy Christmas. I hope you enjoy her stories.

Her parents are proud of her and love her very much !!

Wow Trang Tina is so cute. It is really quite amazing that she could learn so much English from the cartoons. That is good that she has you and some others to talk and practice with. I watch a TV show called Survivor and one of the men this season is from India and he learned English from watching this show. For how many Korean Dramas I have watched I should know more Korean! :)

I guess you can speak some Korean now Sara 🤗🤗 I only know one word in Korean: oppa (honey) 😆 I think watching cartoons makes learning English more fun and enjoyable, and it's amazing that she can learn a lot and even speaks like a native speaker. Her pronunciation is even better than me :) I sometimes don't understand when she talks to me about science topics :)

Survivor sounds like a fantastic show. I will check it out. Thank you Sara and I hope you have a wonderful week ahead. :)

She's very impressive and has a very nice smile! My 11 year old son has also learned more from Youtube than from me and my French accent but has not yet reached that level. His motivation? To easily understand game tutorials to become a great gamer and streamer or maybe to be a youtuber (it's not fixed yet) 🤣

Hey @imtase, thanks for stopping by, and am glad you like Tina's video :) She must have been a bit shy because she was making her first video by herself :) She normally communicates like a native speaker, from her accent, body language to her voice:) Being a great streamer and gamer is what motivated the boy to learn English on youtube nowadays :) I think both are very potential careers in the future 😎

She was perfect for her first video 👍 These are two domains where many things remain to be invented and are very exciting.

Thank you for introducing Tina to us my dear. It is great to know her and I am sure Tina will have a bright future waiting for her.

Tina is learning English in a nature way which most of vietnamese in our generation wouldn't have known of. We studied English for exams and didn't like it. That makes it so hard for us to communicate fluently as we are afraid of making mistakes. So I think if children are able to have the same level of interest as Tina and with a bit help from parents, they can use English as fluently as vietnamese. So proud when thinking about our future generation

Aww thank you nàng nhé.

What a talented girl 😊 Therefore, get ready to be prouder because she will continue to amaze you with her skills 😊
