My Selfmade Greenhouses

in HiveGarden7 months ago (edited)

Bzzz!
I wanted to get early cucumber fruits from my vegetable garden this spring, and for this I needed to make a miniature semblance of a greenhouse.
From the available junk I started to assemble the construction, which I only imagined in my head.

I took old window frames as a base, and connected them together with long planks

Instead of special self-tapping wood screws, I use ordinary nails to fasten the bars to the frame

Once I had a rigid rectangular base for my greenhouse, I marked along the long sides of the greenhouse where the metal arches would be installed in the frame. I made markings every 50 cm for drilling holes in the frame

I'm still using the same ancient trophy tool. The lack of power tools makes the work process a bit longer and heavier, but it is good to have a hand tool that gives independence from the power grid or batteries...

In order for the arcs to hold tightly in the wood, the holes should be made slightly smaller in diameter than the diameter of the wire used

To avoid drilling through the bar, it is convenient to draw a mark with a marker on the drill bit

Guide the end of the wire into the hole by gripping it tightly with pliers.
Since the hole has a smaller diameter you will have to help the wire get inside the wood by hitting the protruding part of the pliers with a hammer

This frame can already be covered with cellophane or netting

But for rigidity, I decided to connect the tops of the arches using galvanized thin wire

For some reason, I have not found pictures of my cucumber seeds sprouting under the zephane greenhouse. But I found pictures of them already blooming and lounging in the lacy shade of the agro netting

This is how cozy my greenhouse looks from the inside

The next day I made a frame for a slightly smaller greenhouse, but I didn't have enough mesh to cover it yet

I want to try next spring to grow young dill, parsley, cilantro and sorrel with it

But the weather has given us an unpleasant surprise this season.
When I had already changed the cellophane film for a net that gives shade, frost struck at night and left us this year without a significant part of the crop.
Potato sprouts, young walnut trees, plum ovaries and tasty grapes were affected. The cucumbers are frozen, too((

Hey curators, is there something wrong with my previous DIY post, that you ignore it????
