Am not talking about human blood, but Horseshoe crab blood which is worth $60000 per gallon, making it one of the most expensive resources in the world.
Various companies harvests as much as 600,000 crabs yearly to drain individual crabs of 30% of their blood, before being returned to their natural habitat.
The horseshoe blood has a unique blood colour which is Blue. Its blood is blue due to presence of copper in its hemocyanin which is used for oxygen transportation in their blood.
Why is it valuable
Apart from the presence of copper in its blood, it also contains Amebocyte which has a unique importance to the Medical Research Community, the Amebocyte is used to isolate pathogens and detect endotoxins which has greatly reduced other time and money consuming practices.
Horseshoe is truly a money making blood, how I wish to harvest horseshoe crab to make blood money!
