This is how Irrigation Farming goes on in my community
Planting during dry season can be difficult and sometimes impossible due to the lack of rain and all. There is also the need for some perishable goods by consumers not just during the rainy season when we have rain to provide the needed water for the growth of the plant but also during the dry season.
Perishable goods are those that have short storage life span and deteriorate within a short period of time. Example of such is fish, dairy products, vegetables and so on. With their short life span it makes it necessary for such product to be produced on a consistent based. Some of these perishable goods can be produced on a consistent bases with ease like dairy products, fish while others will take a considerable amount of effort to produce, one of such is vegetables (leaf vegetables).

Vegetables (leaf vegetables) such as lettuce, spinach, Chili pepper, hot pepper, siling-labuyo etc are mostly needed by consumers throughout the year and this need brings with it a little problem of some sort for farmers who are into the production of these vegetables. As we all know there is the rainy season where the supply of water is sorted out by rainfall, there is also dry season where there is little or no rain for a considerable period of time. This then bring the question, how do farmers make up for the lack of rain as a source of water for their plants?

Here in my community farmers have designed a special type of irrigation farming to meet their need of water supply to their plants In particular vegetables
Of course during the dry season there is no rain to supply water to the crops but there are rivers, rivers that last all through the dry season and these rivers has provided an alternate source of water for plants. You will want to ask how these farmers go around this.
In my community there is a river close by that flows and most times outlast the dry season.
So what these farmers do is that after planting these vegetables they make it a daily activity to provide water for these plants twice a day mostly in the morning and evening. In a way it can be a tidious task for the farmers as some of them do not have a pumping machine that would supply water easily to their farms and that they would have to resort to going down to the river to fetch water with buckets and supplying the plants.
In their own small but difficult way these farmers have being able to keep the supply of these vegetables going, without them I wonder how we would periods without the supply of such especially those of us who are vegetarian.
From a fellow vegetarian I say I big thank you to these farmers who put in so much effort to ensure we are provided with out favourite every single time through out the year

Do the farmers need to pay for the water? Is it metered in some way and if so what sort of costs are involved?
This farming system is carried out along the river source, so water is free.
The cost involved is mainly the fuel and generator used to pump water into the farm.
Ah I see, and there is ample water? Taking it from the river doesn't deplete the supply? I say this because we have that problem here in particular areas and water-courses. Australia is a dry continent and water is always an issue here.
The water source 90% of the time last through the dry season where there is lack of rain to the period where rain starts falling. If and when it gets dry it only last for a month or less before rain begins. Here does not experience prolonged dry periods like that of Australia I can assure because I have had of how extreme it gets there in Australia from the news, like few months ago the wild fire there was all over the news so....
Ok, it seems things are quite under control. W have been in drought conditions for 8 years in vast areas of the country with literally no water available. They had to truck drinking water in for the people even! It's a problem here for sure.

Wow, 8 years of drought, my mouth dropped open, am not sure we can survive such here, most villages have no roads leading to them say more of taking water in tanks to them for drinking.
Every continent with its challenges, i so wish the world is a better place.
Yeah, we have other challenges here too, but at least it's a safe place to live, and reasonably comfortable. Australia really is a nice place to live and the drought situation isn't right across the country so not all of us are affected.
