I would like to dedicate this post to @arsh11 whom with his tireless cleaning work inspires me, and others, I am sure, to take similar actions. your work is not being un-noticed !
today is Friday, June 23rd. 2023.
it is a hot early summer day and so I have gone collecting the garbage along the roadside around midday, before it gets too hot to even be in the sun.
the forecast for today is of about 37ºC. pretty normal for this time of year.
my little helper is not around today so as you can see in the video, you will not see much of me.
after a long absence, I would like to try and retake to this Friday tradition, depending of course on our availability and weather conditions.
styrofoam. an absolute disaster for the environment. it is Petroleum based disposable material. way too cheap to produce and once used, impossible to get rid of.
once it breaks, it is literally impossible to properly collect. toxic.
glass. creates a serious risk of fire in our climate during summer. especially once broken, pieces create a magnifying glass effect and can easily start fires. notice the amount of dry, combustible material it sits on.
plastic bottles. a "classic". one of the worst as it is being shredded to tiny pieces when the roadsides are being "cleaned" of weeds.
didn´t have to walk very far in order to fill up this 50L. bag.
on a positive note:
our cleaning efforts in this area are visible and it does feel good to do our grain of sand to maintain a cleaner environment.
some people still treat nature as an open public dumpster and obviously there is work needed to be done in education.
I trust that every car that passed me while I was there cleaning gets this message.
