My Preferred Sports

in CLEAN PLANET7 days ago (edited)

In today's world, I feel the equation of its balance would seemingly remain incomplete without the mention of the aspect of sports. It will baffle one to realise how much of an effort; financially, emotionally, timewise...people invest into the matter of sports. It's much like you’re certain to find some sort of sport in every nook and cranny. The subject is one thing common, yet admirable.

Sports have turned out to be undeniably one of the greatest and portent diffusers of entertainment to the world today - and decades back even. One of the major ideals that tend to bring people of different race, background, culture together in sheer pleasure and entertainment is the subject of sports. Sometimes, all that’s needed is for both parties to be supporters of a particular team or individual competing, and you're friends in agreement.

I've had my personal feel about sports. And it's not one that's far from passion, enchantment and desire. Ranging from playing them to watching them, I find it always pleasing; not until my side is losing. It’s totally fun, yet can be painful and depressing when a team or preferred competitor loses; especially when they shouldn’t. I've had my fair share of both cases, but then, sports it is.

While growing up, one sport that I got much attracted to; reason being that it was watched well enough in my house was wrestling. Yeah, that’s right. This is one sport I did like which I never practiced though. Well, the producers tend to give us this caution then, "don't try this at home, school or anywhere". Just so you know, I did try it a few times on my brothers though. I guess curiosity kills the cat - chuckles. I've come to like the sport even after realising that the actions are scripted. That's why it's an entertainment right?

Another one - this particular one I dare to tag as my most favourite of the favourites - is football. Some parts of the world know it as soccer. I find it hard to agree that there's any sport better than this one. Growing up, I had the privilege to engage in it as much as possible. It’s one sport I enjoyed playing, as much as watching. The pains and joy that come from it are enormous, almost unbelievable that so much emotion can be put in something like this. In my early days in secondary school, I always anticipated games day, just so I could enjoy some football with other students. Watching matches of my favourite team, my country, and great players like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwanko, Vincent Enyeama, Joseph Yobo…play, added to the flair of the game for me. That’s what makes it special, I guess.

One sport I later got captivated by, and became added to my list of favourites was basketball. I wasn't tall enough for the game but I loved every ounce of the beautiful moments it provides. From the dunks to the three-point scores, and the unbelievable match endings, it was another thing altogether. Watching the likes of Giannis Antetokoumpo, Steve Curry, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Micheal Jordan, added to the finesse of the game for me.

How about a game played with rackets and balls? Yeah, lawn tennis. I enjoyed watching this sport right from adolescent stage. Seeing the likes of Rafael Nadal, Dominic Djokovic, Roger Federer, the Williams sisters; Venus and Serena do their magic on the court, it was hard not to like it. This wasn’t a common sport around me, nevertheless it was one I did so much enjoy.

The world of sports has offered many the opportunity to become professionals in diverse categories. Many found a lifelong passion so much that they became invested in it, and handsomely rewarded through it. Still counts as a dream for many today.

Honestly the world would remain incomplete and boring without sports.

Absolutely!
Can't imagine it.

Wow! I just learned one thing now.. you mean those kicks and punches in wrestling are all scripted? I never know till now

Yeah, some things in the ring my not really be scripted, but some of them are, the beef, the winnings, are scripted.
