There are different ways people promote personal hygiene and cleanliness in their homes or environment in which they live. The general idea of cleanliness is to get rid of the of germs and dirt in an environment by constantly and consistently employing cleaning methods that would bring about good health of both the mind and the body.
I have come to realize that, a clean environment is a contributing Factor to a person's general well-being. Based on experience, dirty environment can affect a person and their ways of life. Take for instance, a dirty environment can bring about bad health which can let the person suffer from setting diseases such as cholera, typhoid, dysentery (water borne disease), malaria (mosquitoes), asthma, tuberculosis (airborne disease), food poisoning, ringworm etc.
In other words, when your environment is dirty, it can affect your physical and mental health. Cleanliness contributes to creating a healthy and pleasant environment for you and your family.
In Africa, our culture and tradition is one that takes cleanliness into Deep consideration because as a child we learn to keep our environment clean by cleaning and dusting. It is a tradition that when we wake up in the morning, the first thing we do is to say our prayers and greet our parents and immediately after, we take our Brooms and Sweep the entire compound.
Before the Invention of brushes, what we used and still use is called broom made locally from palm fronds, these allows you to bend down and Sweep properly removing every dirt on your way. Hence, daily cleaning and dusting of cobwebs is a necessity to maintain a healthy life balance and a clean environment.
Another means of ensuring cleanliness in the home is by taking care of the kitchen especially as a lady. The kitchen is considered a sacred place where our foods are being prepared. Speaking from experience, once there is a complication in the kitchen, it can bring about a lot of havoc on a person's health. What I am trying to say is that, it is important and necessary to clean the kitchen on a daily basis by washing the dishes immediately when you use them, mopping the floor, cleaning the surfaces, wiping off dust and cobwebs. It is also important to declutter the kitchen allowing for space and fresh air to move around the place because of the foodstuffs. These steps would help to eliminate, worms from spoilt food, ants, insects, cockroaches, rats and so on.
Finally, in cleaning the house, it is important to take proper care of the toilet and the bathroom, this is so because when these rooms are not properly kept the emit gems that are harmful to the person's body. So, it is important to wash the toilet regularly with disinfectant like hypo or soap and also to scrub the floor. Also, endeavor that there is enough ventilation in the toilet and bathroom as This would eliminate molds and mildew.
These are the steps and methods I employ to keep my home clean. So far, I have been consistent in doing it and it has helped me to live a healthy life so far.
