We really need to talk—because some of us are starting to treat waste bins like flowers placed at the corners of our streets just to beautify the place. But let’s be honest: waste bins are not decorations.
It’s one thing to walk past a clean road and admire it; it’s another thing entirely to contribute to keeping it that way. Sadly, what I often see is people casually dropping pure water sachets, biscuit wraps, and all kinds of trash on the ground, even when a bin is just a few steps away. Why?
The truth is: littering is a choice, and so is cleanliness. When we choose to throw dirt on the ground, we are not just making the place untidy, we’re inviting flies, foul smells, clogged drainages, and even diseases. It’s a ripple effect and we can stop it by doing the simple thing: use the bin.
And if the bin is full? Don't just toss your waste beside it and walk away. Look for another bin or hold on to your trash until you can dispose of it properly. That one act speaks volumes about who we are and the kind of environment we want to live in.
Clean environments don’t happen by accident; they happen because people choose to care. So next time you're tempted to drop that wrap on the floor, ask yourself: “Would I do this in my own living room?”
Let’s change the way we see waste bins, they’re not there to look pretty. They’re there to help us keep our space clean and our planet healthier.
