How Does Cassava Plantation Contribute To Food Security In Nigeria

Hello, Hivers. Here’s the chronicle of how I spent my day harvesting cassava on my farmland.

I grew up going to farm with my parents, this made me to like farming because I've understand there are many benefits of farming, one of such benefits is plentiful of food as i don't buy food from market.

The sun was very hot as I went to the farm to harvest cassava, making the work harder and more tiring. I wouldn’t advise anyone to perform such a task under the sun. I went with a hoe, cutlass, and bags. You might wonder why I needed the hoe. "1000284411.jpg"
Right now, we’re experiencing Harmattan in Nigeria, and the land is dry, causing the cassava to break into the ground. Because of this, I used a hoe to till the land and get it out.

The above is a picture of the farm. The cassava is just 1 year and 6 months old. I couldn’t leave it any longer due to the nature of the land.
"1000284415.jpg" Tilling the ground wasn’t easy and was also time-consuming. It took a lot of energy to get even one cassava out of the ground.

I carefully succeeded in uprooting the cassava without breaking it into the ground. One of the benefits of not breaking the cassava is that it makes peeling easier.

As you can see, the cassava was quite large, and the land was fruitful. I’m grateful to God for this harvest.

I also brought a container of water because we are in Harmattan season, and a dry throat is inevitable. I needed the water to stay hydrated.

It's best to keep the water away from the sun, in a shaded area.

I also brought a nose cover to protect myself from inhaling dust, but it seems like it didn’t do much, as I’m sneezing right now.

So, I was able to harvest a lot of cassava, though some were broken. It's difficult to avoid breaking cassava during the dry season

Due to extensive tilling of the land while harvesting cassava, my hands have developed blisters, calluses, and minor cuts.

It was a large piece of land, so I couldn't finish in time, and it was getting late. My dad had to come with a vehicle to help me carry the cassava home.
Upon arriving home, I took a warm shower and ate.

And I'm eating a banana as I write this now.

Despite the difficulties encountered, am thankful for the harvest 🥰
