The Labor and Love Behind Peanut Harvesting

Coming back to the province really does make us feel an overwhelming sense of belonging. It feels like the true definition of home for someone who has been very busy hustling and bustling in the city. When I had the chance to go home, I was so happy. The countryside's breeze of air is different from the city and that is one of the reasons why I super love going back home. It's earthy fresh which just shows simple yet vibrant living. This farm is my parents' and has become the land of all the crops they wanted to produce. At this point, we had reached the time to dig up and harvest the peanuts.

The farm and all the efforts behind this abundant land are all from my parents labor. I just admired too much the endless effort they poured into maintaining the farm. It’s not an easy life. Well, evidently, it’s a life of sweat, patience, and hardwork. There are no shortcuts here, only extensive sun exposure together with relentless effort during each day's routine.

Just a quick glimpse of this cute and protective doggo who always goes with my parents to the farm.

Going back, harvesting peanuts isn’t a task that can be rushed. As someone who grew up in the province, I know how much time it takes to finish harvesting it. It takes a lot of sacrifice. First, we had to get the soil right. The farmers will carefully monitor the moisture levels, making sure everything is in balance. Then, they wait, wait, and wait. Because as we all know, peanuts take time to grow, to mature underground, where we can’t see them, but we know they’re there, working their magic.

Then finally seeing the crops in harvest means all of the careful waiting has finally paid off. The peanut farmers extracted the plants from the ground while peanuts were dangling from beneath the root system. When I helped plucking the plants I honestly experienced a deep sense of fulfillment because our hidden peanuts appear like uncovering rare gems from the soil.

The task continues beyond initial harvesting phases. After pulling the peanuts from the ground, we must remove them carefully from the roots before cleaning and setting them under the sun for drying but we just do that sometimes. At this moment, you genuinely experience the weight of it all. Working at this farm evidently requires endless effort while pushing yourself through pure devotion. That is why, I'm so grateful for my hardworking parents. Though it's hard work, my parents have fun doing it. To them, it's like a labor of love.

All aspects of peanut farming matter beyond the actual peanuts themselves. The farm depends on people in the place who did the continuous work that goes into making this farm thrive. My mind often wanders to the hard work and lifelong dedication which my parents had put to it. Every peanut we harvest signifies dedication together with sacrifice because my parents taught me patience and showed me how hard work brings growth from land we love.

This peanut harvest experience I had once again, has made me appreciate my parents more and more everyday. It's all due to their hardwork and I was happy to see my relatives and neighbors harvesting it as well. At every planting and harvest time, farmers pour their full efforts into the farm because they obviously recognize this continuous agricultural cycle.

As you can see, the peanut sizes aren't that huge, but this doesn't stop our beloved farmers. Instead, they continue to do the work with so much dedication and resilience.

That's why, kudos to all hardworking individuals. I would say that all farmers continue to motivate me by their daily work. I know what it’s like to wake up early, to toil under the sun, to work hard and long, often without much recognition. But to the farmers, I just wanna say that I SEE YOU. I know that you do it with your hearts. I genuinely wish that every effort you put into the farm brings you abundant rewards at harvest time and makes the entire process worthwhile for you.

Idk why but province life really hits different.🥹

I really love this kind of life 😩❤️

Panghatag ma'am ☺️, haay nindota kung naa gyuy kaugalingon tanom ma'am sa 😁

This is one of the reasons why I love agriculture, at the end of the farming season you will always have what to harvest.
I love peanut's can i get some?

I was amazed how I see how you harvest peanuts😍

I would also love to have a farm of my own. During the pandemic, I started practicing subsistence farming as part of a school project, but it failed miserably since I don't have a green thumb for taking care of plants. That's why I have mad respect for our farmers, including you and your family, as you successfully grow and harvest crops. May society hold them in high regard as well.💗

It's interesting to have a glimpse of how peanuts are harvested. It's so much fulfilling to witness how the patience and hard work of the farmers has been rewarded. It reminds me how back then at our backyard we had this little peanut garden that my mother really love. I cannot stop but to imagine it getting boiled and added with salt, it's delicious. 🥜💓

I agree when you wrote, "There is no shortcut... only efforts" when doing these kind of fulfilling labor. Happy you reaped bountiful peanuts Miss @jeannmazing!
