HELLO HIVE
Water system for cultivation very important when it has anything to do with rice cultivation since rice are typically grown in bounded fields that are continuously flooded.
This ensure sufficient water and weeds control.
There are two very common types of rice which are classified based on the amount of water it need from planting up until when it is harvested there are also other ways they are classified like the size of their seed.
We have the upland rice and the lowland rice, the one I specifically grow is the lowland rice, your geographical location also play a big role in this.
Like in Nigeria places in the north east region majorly plant upland rice as rainfall in those parts of the region are not very sufficient to grow lowland rice that requires a lot of water.
To ensure that I efficiently maximize water for my farm I would construct field channels and prepare land to maximize water loss.
The most important part of this is to make sure that I level the field, construct bunds and repair any cracks or hole.
Keeping the rice flooded is important as rice is very sensitive to water and water should be flooded once the rice can withstand it which would be around four weeks after planting.
Boundaries don't just play the role of controlling water flow but are also importantly used to as stop gap or bounds to separate different farmland to prevent any form of land dispute.

This is a good practice, if you need to store up more water in the rice why not use a crude method of saving enough sandy soil in sacks to be arranged and stacked into piles.
This could work well to prevent water drainage from the field.
Am just learning about the upland rice for the first time.
Thanks for sharing
That's is also a good idea from another angle
