Camping at the farm

For me it was like a whole new level of camping was unlocked recently with the discovery of heading out with a camper. Back in the days when you would go camping you would need a thick book with all of the campsites, but nowadays everythiing is a lot easier with apps that tells you were you could potentially go, opening hours, prices and reviews.

On of the things that the apps can tell you as well is if there is the option to camp 'at the farm', which ofcourse I needed to try out. And it was even way better than expected.

Especially as being a city girl I really don't have a good gist of everything that comes with farming. And from what I saw, this was an ongoing process in the day. Farming is hard work!

The animals

We stayed at a cowfarm where they hard their own local farmshop which is opened a couple of days per week. I walked inside of the barn for a little bit and no one minded that iw as doing that, everything was just all open to see. There were a couple of super large fields next to the barn where the cows were walking outside as well. These guys looked happy and well fed. Good to see!

Every good farm needs some other animals as well. As you could see there were some chicken walking around and the whole time for no reason a shetland pony was walking around the camper by us? (weird but true. Our doggo and the shetland got along pretty wel which was actually very surprisingly)

Ofcourse there were also some farm doggos just chilling around and guarding the place. They were friendly but alert on everything that was happening. Just as you need on the farm!

Everything here was a good vibe and tranquil, you could see a lot was going on in the fields as it is currently harvesting season. So there wasa lot of movement, but no one looked stressed about it!

Feeding from the farmshop

As said the farm also had a little farmshop in there. They had beef from their own butchered cows here, as well as veggies from the fiels. Also a couple products were from the neighbors farms which makes this a cool ecosystem with all of the farms selling each others products to get a whole line of produce for sale.

I got a bag of tomatoes with cucumber and garlic (it was only able to buy everything together as a package in veggies, as they would spoil later on) for $5 bucks and some beef from the their own cows. Also some sausage with camembert cheese was the topping of the fest.

All of this together costed like $15 and was going to be a full meal. And because we got it there at the farm shop meant that we didn't have to pay anything for the camping spot.

So wait...fresh products to eat and a free place to stay? This is like a dream right?

You could see on the veggies that these are the ones that supermarkets don't really like. The tomatoes had all kinds of shapes and colours in a variety from yellow, orange to red and purble and also the shape was very different on every one of them.

But the taste on them...So sweet and just wow!!

Making a meal and enjoying to the fullest

The sausage was truly the bomb as I had never tasted fresh beef with camembert together as yet. I didn't know what to expect but as you can see, the colour tells you somehting about the freshness!

Doggo was loving the setting as well, as he was roaming around all day in the field with the other dogs and animals.

The meal ended up being just fantastic. With a bit of barbeque this meat didn't need anything else than salt and pepper to it. From the tomatoes I I also grilled a couple of them, and from the rest I made a tomato salade with onion and olive oil.

The garlics from the bag were grilled as well to make a nice pulp that was awesome on the beef. What a meal this was all together!

What a way to spend the day! Just grilling and chilling using everything that is lying around over there. I could get used to hanging on farms a bit more.

What a nice experience and if you ever see the option to stay at a farm...just do it!

That's a really great deal, good local food and free camping on a working farm. Did you get to help out on the farm?

Where's this by the way? You can pin it on Worldmappin or the new Pinmapple 😊

Yeah a really good deal and super fun one! Nehh no helping out as the farmlands were mostly grain at the moment with big machines, and the cows were just roaming around. But would love to pluck stuff indeed!

Yeah love worldmappin but didnt know the exact location anymore on this one haha. More worldmappin to come on stuff where I do know where it was :D

Wow, what a wonderful experience.
I was lucky enough to have a v good friend who lived in the countryside when I was a kid, so managed to spend a fair amount of time knocking about his neighbors farm with the farmers sons

lol you're right that it is a lot of work, but when you're a kid it isn't too much of a chore as most of the tasks involve animals.

Eating from the farm shop sounds awesome, all the fresh veg 🙂

Yeah as a kid this should be like heaven indeed. When I saw all of the animals roaming around and with the humans interacting in between, this seemed like a very peacefull and balanced place to grow up in.

We had a kiddy farm near us growing up, I remember spending a lot of time patting and chilling with the goats and collecting ackorns in autumn for them to eat througout the winter time haha
