Hi everyone! Just a little market gist from me today (Friday).
So I went to the market to buy fish—omo! Everything was double the price it used to be last year. I swear to God, fish is now luxury o. This just shows how badly the naira is falling. But beyond that, it’s clear we really need some kind of upliftment in our agricultural system.
You know what’s funny? In my area, people mostly rear catfish. I don’t even know why—it’s like catfish everywhere! I was actually looking for a particular fish—Shawah Ghana (that’s what we call it in Yoruba), but guess what? I couldn’t find it! I was shocked! Like, how can Shawah just vanish from the market like that?
At the end of the day, I just had to buy another type. The market itself was loud, packed, and rowdy—like usual. But this time, the prices were mad! Fish is now like gold!
We really need more agricultural diversity. Let’s raise more fish varieties, support local farmers and fisherfolk, and make food more affordable again. Honestly, it's getting out of hand.
Please! Let me know if you’ve noticed the same thing in your area too! I bought four pieces of Agbodo fish for #4000 naira.
