Black Cat Auditions in Hollywood, audições de gato preto em hollywoodas

🐈 Black cat auditions in hollywood, photographed by Ralph Crane for LIFE magazine, 1961.
The auditions were for Edgar Allan Poe's Tales of Horror, "The Black Cat". ✨ •
Exactly 152 cats attended the test, all of them "considerably less nervous than their owners". Several were disqualified thanks to white paws or white noses, but even for those left in contention, dreams were largely frustrated. The lead role, it seems, had already been filled by "a well-known professional cat." Seven lucky extras, selected for having the meanest faces, were chosen as stand-ins or stuntmen.
