Today I'm going to tell you how we produce strawberries on the farm.
Production is small as we plant only for our own consumption.
Planting strawberries in our region requires a lot of attention, care and time.
Therefore, here we plant in a greenhouse, so that the climate is milder, as winter is harsh and frost can kill the strawberry tree.
We usually buy new matrices every two years, because, despite the strawberry propagating very quickly, it is necessary to renew the seedlings so that the fruits can grow stronger. Our last purchase was Chilean variety seedlings.
To ensure good production, pruning is necessary during most of the year, especially around the production months (usually from the months of May/June, extending until the beginning of spring in Brazil).
To prepare the land, we use turkey manure and limestone. Strawberries need lots of light and wetter soil.
It is a fruit susceptible to many species of fungi and aphids. To combat these problems, we use a very simple and effective technique: milk and water.
For 9 liters of water, 1 liter of milk is used.
This irrigation is done fortnightly in a preventive way, or weekly if there is an incidence of fungi.
The period between planting the seedlings and harvesting the ripe fruit is, on average, two to three months.

A produção é pequena pois plantamos apenas para o consumo próprio.
O plantio de morangos em nossa região exige muita atenção, cuidado e tempo.
Por isso, aqui nós plantamos em uma estufa, para que o clima seja mais ameno, pois o inverno é rigoroso e a geada pode matar os pés.
Geralmente compramos matrizes novas a cada dois anos, pois, apesar de o morango se propagar muito rapidamente, é necessário ir renovando as mudas para que os frutos possam crescer mais fortes. Nossa última compra foi de mudas da variedade chilena.
Para garantir uma boa produção, é necessária a poda durante a maior parte do ano, principalmente perto dos meses de produção (geralmente a partir do meses de maio/junho, se estendendo até o início da primavera.
Para o preparo da terra, usamos esterco de perus e calcário. O morango precisa de bastante luminosidade e terra mais úmida.
É uma fruta suscetível à muitas espécies de fungos e pulgões. Para combater estes problemas, usamos uma técnica muito simples e eficaz: leite e água.
Para 9 litros de água, utiliza-se 1 litro de leite.
Esta irrigação é feita quinzenalmente de modo preventivo, ou semanalmente se houver incidência de fungos.
O período entre a plantação das mudas e a colheita dos frutos madurinhos é de, em média, dois a três meses.

They are, yes! But it depends on the variety and the season. This one of the photos was newly replanted, even though they are still small. But still the correct thing is to remove part of the leaves so that the fruits come stronger.
Here we call this process of removing excess "ralhar" =]
Wow! So much to learn about planting strawberry. I'm really glad I came by this post. At least I have a little mentality of how to plant and nuture a strawberry seedling.

Incredible, I have always known that the planting of strawberries is a delicate subject because they are very susceptible as you have said here and the climate influences a lot in my country they only harvest it in the states where it is cold in my state since the temperatures are high not the we harvest. I did not know about watering with milk, it is good to know, you never know when that information may be useful to us ... Your harvest is incredible and your strawberries look healthy 🍓🍓🍓

Morango me lembra muito minha infância na casa da minha avó. Eu era pequeno e não entendia épocas corretas. Então sempre eu ia, eu corria para ver se tinha morangos para comer na horta dela xD
Dependendo do lugar que planta, se for coberto e bem cuidado, tem uns pés que dão o ano inteiro, então vai que né hahaha =]
