One May perhaps say that……., I have always loved my neighbors, I never take what does not belong to me, I do not commit adultery, in fact I win souls for Christ, but why does it look like God has forgotten me ?
Laziness might not look like a sin simply because, being lazy does not involve hurting other people’s feelings, killing people, backbiting or any other form of sin that the 10 commandments guides against. However, laziness has the most visible and instant punishments out of all sins. One might suffer the wages of lust, gluttony, greed, wrath, envy and pride after death but the wages of slothfulness begins here on earth.
Proverbs 19:15
Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
Many at times, while being disciplined to work hard at our youthful age, we tend to think that we are being placed under a form of captivity. Little did we know that every discipline was meant to frame us towards a promising future.
While I was in the secondary school, there were boys who grouped themselves to be named The men in campus. These boys were never serious with any school activity nor in anything that can be of benefit to their future. Due to the fact that most of them came from wealthy homes, they never attended classes, never submitted assignments, they were always roaming around hunting ladies and bullying students in the lower levels.
While they were enjoying their moments at secondary school, they never thought about the damages and consequences of their actions at the time until after secondary school days. Most of them never made their papers and never gained admission into the university.
After several years. Some months ago, while I was on break from school and traveled home, I came across some of the boys, but the condition in which I saw them was sorrowful.
They had grown from being a secondary school bully to roadside thugs and cultists. Some of them had even been disowned by their parents, they have no other job than to hang around with birds of the same feather, smoking, drinking and living purposeless lives.
I was able to exchange contacts with one of them who latter explained how regrettable his life has been and how laziness has rubbed him of his future.
While he was in the secondary school, writing of notes, assignments or engaging in academical practicals seemed a bit tasking for him, he would get wiped in school for being irresponsible and get scolded at home for getting bad grades. This continued till he met a friend who promised that if he joins their group(the big men in campus), he would no longer be punished for not being serious with academic, so he agreed and joined.
He explained that ever since then, while preparing for school, he would put extra clothes in his bag to change from the school uniform at an uncomplicated building, then he would follow the group to game houses, prostitute houses, gambling centers and all other places that seemed appealing to them.
He was introduced to cigarette, hard drugs and drinks at a very tender age. That was how he found himself in the hole full of mess he is today. He also said that, now feeding gets so difficult because his parents has given up on him already and has asked him never to return home. Sometimes they have to hail people driving by just to get means of feeding, and sometimes they help politicians carry out their dirty works .
Now he regrets every single day he remembers the advices given by his parents that he had turned deaf ears to. He wishes for a change of life but finds it difficult to adapt to another way of life. This is what laziness is callable of doing.
Show me a man who is exposed to hard labor and low or no income at old age, and I will show you a slothful man who had played away his youthful days.
