At the beginning of every year we all try to set up new goals and imagine a year where we really overcome all obstacles. I think that we all have been there, in the place where nothing from what we planned happens and where setbacks really pull a good one on us.
Can we see into the future and set realistic goals? Sure. Even big businesses do this. With the fast pace of social media evolution ( or involution as some might argue) everything moves online. After the pandemic a lot of individuals had a taste of the good life at home where you can work in your pijamas while munching on potato chips. Where is the social game in all of this? Behind the screen. Some employers dream of making people going back to the office while some fully embrace the idea of cutting costs and keep them working at home.
For me personally I admit that seing how everything moves online is frightening when it comes to the human aspect of it. If everything moves online...how will we hone our social skills? Imagine a world where you do not need to go shopping or to visit a doctor, where everything gets delivered at your door while you don’t have to do any physical or emotional effort. I believe that going digital is awesome as we all taste from the benefits of making money online but I also admit that there is a feeling of restlessness from the entire thing. I come across fewer and fewer people who can hold a genuine conversation. I see people on the streets with their eyes glued to the screens. Children fall into this pattern from a younger age. Are we really doing the right thing by moving everything into the online realm?
When I look to the other side I can also easily pull out arguments which are in favour of all of this. People who are shy can easily make friends online and meet them in real life (even at Hivefest, right?). The world of education is open to everyone, regardless of race or social status. If you have an opinion and a TikTok account you can speak your mind. If you have a disability you can easily order online and have everything that you need right at home. If you feel shame about visiting a therapist in your hometown you can have online therapy sessions right in the comfort of your home.
Reading the Forbes Magazine, the november 2024 romanian issue, made me realize that big corporations are also thinking about which way to go. 90% of the marketing budget allocated by Automobile Bavaria went to digital marketing in 2024. This should tell us something. Many businesses, regardless of the domain, focus on digitalization in the upcoming years. Does this mean that some people will lose jobs while companies try to become efficient and adapt to the trends that humans themselves have installed in the social system? I believe that anything is possible. I believe that AI and digitalization could have the potential to do as much harm as they could do good. A lot of people are caught up in drudgerous activities that require no creativity but sheer robotic repetitive tasks. Maybe some of these people could have the chance to find something else to put in their energy and make money.
I admit that it was a pleasure and an intellectual feast to read all of the interviews in this issue. Top leaders in all sorts of fields shared their worries, insights and plans for the future. It is definetely worth the time to understand their perspective and add it to the overall picture of what 2025 will look like for the future of business.
For me I do not see a problem here as socialization has now become a thing of choice. You don’t have to talk to anyone if you don’t want to. Even tho I don’t go out that much personally I still take walks and hitting the gym has become a priority as this helps keeps you healthy.
Many people have been met with sudden demise due to the old mode of work which was always having to rush to the office and all of the adrenaline rush that comes with working within the four walls all day.
To me digitalization will only separate the intentional ones from the rest. This is where being intentional about what you want and why you want it is of highest value because there’s a lot to do these days that if you don’t know yourself you’ll eventually be carried away by basically anything…a TikTok video or you working on the next groundbreaking game you have ever dreamed of.

This is an interesting perspective! I agree that it all comes up to what we choose. Indeed we have more power to use for our own purposes if we quit the adrenaline race to work and choose remote work. But here the power of self discipline intervenes because as easy as it is to be the master of your own time it is also dangerously tempting to squander it as no one is watching.
Perhaps some folks will discover that they can be more disciplined with a remote job while others will miss the rush of adrenaline. As you probably know our brain can become hooked on negative emotions like getting angry in traffic because you will be late at work...
This is a thought-provoking reflection on the digital age. You've perfectly captured the anxieties many of us share: the potential erosion of social skills, the increasing reliance on technology, and the uncertain future of work.
Your point about the "good life" at home is particularly insightful. While remote work offers flexibility, it can also lead to isolation and blur the lines between work and personal life. The example of Automobile Bavaria's marketing budget highlights the undeniable shift towards digital, raising valid concerns about job displacement and the potential for increased inequality.
However, you also acknowledge the positive aspects of digitalization: increased accessibility for marginalized groups, the democratization of information, and the potential for greater flexibility and work-life balance for some.
Ultimately, finding the right balance is key. We need to harness the power of technology while mitigating its potential downsides. This requires thoughtful policies, robust social safety nets, and a focus on developing critical thinking and digital literacy skills.
I agree that the future of work is uncertain, but I'm hopeful that by engaging in open dialogue and exploring innovative solutions, we can navigate this transition successfully.
You beautifully summarized what my post is about, I appreciate your insights!
Finding a balance is a key and almost sounds like a cliché for most people. But I think that keeping what makes us human should be a priority and honing our social skills is something that should be kept in mind by everyone who wants to join the technology's fast ride
You're welcome! I agree, finding a balance is crucial. It's easy to get swept up in the fast-paced world of technology, but it's important to remember the importance of human connection and social skills. These are essential for navigating both our personal and professional lives.
Yup, it would be awful to live in a world with highly paid remote working people who can't carry a genuine face to face heartfelt conversation . That would make a sterile and creepy world to live in.
