Birds, Butterflies and Someone's Birthday

It was nice and sunny today so we had a walk through Whitworth Park in Darley Dale, Derbyshire. It is a nice green park with plenty of birds on the lake, starting with a moorhen and it's chick.

The resident heron is still here. You see them quite often waiting for their next meal to appear.

We spotted a tree creeper on the tree trunk. I don't think I've seen one before.

The Comma butterfly gets its name from the comma like white spots on the underside of its wings. I couldn't see them though.

The Cabbage White - it's a nickname that has been given to them because they lay their eggs on cabbages.

Thistles are a favourite food of the Painted Lady. It does give you a slight chance of getting a photo.

Little or Small Skipper that likes the tall grass but very tiny to spot.

Some birthday girl is missing her birthday rosette. Happy Birthday wherever you are!
