Regarding technology, a lot of the research papers out there are quite legitimate but aren't adequately covered. The media has three things working against them:
First, it is time. They only have a limited amount of time allotted for communicating the tech.
The second, is notoriety. The flashier the report, the more attention it gets.
The last, and most important, is the effect of sensationalism. We allow ourselves to be drawn into a scandal by not using the emotional intelligence within us. We fail to demand the accuracy reporting warrants for any variety of reasons...and then, we complain when things are not as accurate as we would like.

I think it is not criticism. Until we get married, it is our mothers, then wives become as much concerned as them about us :)
