Υou know what they say ... when you make plans, fate laughs.
Because fate knows very well that it 's gonna be hard to fulfil these plans.
In my case, I just wanted some rest after the workload that I had all this period. And what do I mean by rest? To spend the longest part of the day at sea, accompanied by a cold cocktail and a good book.
But then the phone rang. And on the other side of the line was my mother, to notify me that she had an accident (thank God, nothing serious), but she had to stay in bed for at least one week.
For me, that my current residency is in Northern Greece, whereas my mother lives on the island of Cret, in the South, it means that I have to get on a plane in order to be close to her and help her in her current condition.
So, after one hasty trip with the airplane (so hasty, that I got on the plane almost the last minute), I reached my hometown. Although I was very worried about my mom, as soon as I got home, I found that things were not as serious as I thought at first. A lumbago, which, however, prevented her from helping herself and for that she needed my help.
But, as I said before, when man makes plans, fate laughs. Although I had finished most of my work and studies, there was still one exam left, which luckily for me was online. However, that meant I had to keep reading. Even if sometimes this became difficult, due to the circumstances.
That's my brother's cat "Flea" that loves linguistics so much, that sleeps on top of the linguistics books.
And after I gave my exam and since my mom was a little better, I went for a walk in the town. It's really interesting when you are away from your city for a long time. You feel like a tourist. So, I walked through the narrow streets of my city and started taking pictures.
It is magnificent the sunset gazing at the sea
The Gate Guora that used to be one of the main entrances of the city
The old harbour
The lighthouse built by the Turk-Egyptians in the 19th century
The great arched gate built by the Venetians, depicting an arbor. On the right and left side there were two lions, that now unfortunately are destroyed.
The Neratze mosque. It used to be a catholic monastery, but during the occupation of Crete by the Turks, it was used as a mosque. Nowadays, it functions as a concert hall
One of my most favourite church in my hometown.
One of the most famous monument of my hometown. "Rimondi fountain", built in the 17th cebtury by the Venetian governor of that time, Rimondi and it was named after him.
Unfortunately, time has not been kind to this magnificent feature of Venetian architecture
The palm trees on the coastal road of the city
I didn't have much time to wander around, but the few places I visited made my eyes full and gave enough warmth in my heart to heal the nostalgia for the time being. Since my mum was οκ no w (all fixed up) and I had to go back to work, I got back at my base, in Northern Greece.
But I would be lying, If I said that I don't miss my hometown. Thank God, I got these photos (and many more) to remind me of my hometown.
Hope that you enjoyed them. too.
