Banner created in canva   It has been a while since I acted as a teacher in a school. It is something that I think once in a while about the possibility of leading a class, but here in Canada, I would need to invest a bit to get my teacher license validated, both money and time to study again. Right now, it isn't a priority. But it is a whole new world for teachers compared to almost 7 years ago, my last time in a classroom, now with the possibility of AI for both learning and teaching. One of the biggest challenges for me as a teacher was always to find the fairest way to assess students about their knowledge gained in my classes, I had my special point of view about the right type of assessment, and for me, traditional written tests could be used but they weren't the best way to do it. Written exams are the most outdated form of assessment in classes ...

"Yoki's Farm", Mendez.

English Our most recent excursion took us to "Yoki's Farm" in Mendez, which is home to a zoological garden, hydroponic vegetable cultivation and a museum of antique artefacts. Founded in 1996 as a hobby, Yoki's Farm is a family project that is now run on ten hectares of land. In Asia in particular, animals in zoos are often locked up in very narrow, inappropriate cages, so I was all the more pleased to read in advance that most of the enclosures at Yoki's Farm are clean and offer their inhabitants a relatively large amount of space. Our daughter had been impatiently counting down the days to our visit to the farm for some time already, and I think she wasn't disappointed.

The concept of smart work was introduced to me while I was in corporate. It came pretty late in life, but, It was one of the best learning curve in my career. It taught me to complete my job in less time and effort. Infact it was a trend in the corporate sector to bring down the manual efforts. From streamlining process to lean ideas to improvise to other multiple way, we were alwsys looking towards reducing the efforts and to get maximum output. (own edited image) I started fancying the concept more in my career as it taught me, to get more work done in less time by using resources effectively and achieving the best results without compromising quality ...

The Need for Change: Making Exams More Effective and Relevant

I had a conversation with my sister recently about the educational system and how things have messed up so bad. She is having some challenges with her courses in Germany as she is studying for her masters in an engineering course. Her struggles in her German courses highlight some limitations of the traditional exam system. She's expected to memorise and pour back the way it is all 400 slides worth of information, not giving her the chance to demonstrate her true understanding or application of the material. I encountered a similar thing while in school as most lecturers want you to pour back as it is in the material, thereby going through the rote memorization, and any mistake or distraction would make everything varnish from your head. The worst of all is how lecturers would mandate students to buy their course materials, which is sometimes as boring as something else, it is always a criterion to pass their courses and in the end, it's all a waste ...

Whenever I hear the word “Smart work”, I remember a friend of mine who used it as “Smart study”. When we all used to cram every chapter and cover the whole syllabus, he used to prepare a few important chapters saying that when the examiner is offering you flexibility to attempt a few questions rather than all then why are you exhausting your mind? And more astonishing is that he always scored more than us, though his knowledge was confined to selective chapters and topics. This was not only he who was habitual of selective study stating it as smart study. Many in Pakistan do this because their final goal is to pass the paper and get good grades instead of obtaining knowledge and getting acquainted with a wide range of topics added to courses. Their definition of smart study is confined to selective study because it is smartness in the study according to them to do what the examiner demands instead of what their field asks ...
