Calms the Impulse to Act in Hasty: Desire plays a vital role in human beings. Desire for some objects and actions is natural and healthy. However, excessive desire results in impulsive action or else unhealthy habits like over excitement, and so on. If there is an irresistible urge to do something that you can't do by force, you can't be too worried about it. You can try these tips to calm the impulse to act in haste.
The First Thing You Have to Do: Before acting on anything, you have to think of what you want. This thought should not be related to what you don't want. If you don't want to lose your temper, don't say that you don't want to lose your temper. It sounds contradictory. You should just state the fact that you want to be calm first thing.
The Second Thing You Have to Do: Say that you feel calm. Don't over emphasize yourself by saying that you are calm. Overemphasizing yourself only makes you impulsive again. Calm down; don't over-emphasize.
The Third Thing You Have to Do: After being calm, try to find out what makes you feel good. This feeling can be found anywhere. Sometimes you can feel good while doing something that you normally don't enjoy doing. At other times, you can feel good just by looking at beautiful things. Notice the trigger that makes you feel good and start doing things that you usually would not like to do.
The Fourth Thing You Have to Do: You should resist acting impulsively when confronted with impulsive people or things. Resist the impulse to do things that run counter to your values and interests. When you are impulsive, the best thing you can do is to avoid these situations. For example, if you feel bad about stealing, keep away from shops which offer discounts on items which you feel like stealing.
The Fifth Thing You Have to Do: Calms down. Resist the temptation to do things that make you feel in a hurry. If you want to buy something that you think you need but really doesn't, then wait. Make sure that you do not rush into buying something that will get you into trouble. If you feel that the impulsive behavior is getting the better of you, simply stop and think about what it is that you are impulsive about.
The Sixth Thing You Have to Do: While you are calms, try to find out what triggers your impulsive behavior. For example, if you are always buying things which you are not sure about, then you should stop and ask yourself what you are feeling when you behave in this manner. If you feel angry, calms down by spending some time with a nice family member or simply by taking a walk. It is often said that forgiveness is better than forgetting. Therefore, if you feel that you have crossed the line and acted impulsively, then stop indulging yourself in such activities and look for someone who can help you in resolving this situation.
Lastly, do not get into another impulsive behavior as soon as you manage to control your feelings. If you always tend to behave in haste, then your friends and family might not accept your ways and you may be constantly rejected. However, if you are calmer and behave properly, your friends would definitely accept you as they would see that you are actually settling down for life and are ready for real life. Therefore, always remember that impulsive behavior is not good in any case and only worsens the problem. Stop and think before you indulge in impulsive behavior...
