So recently I saw a news about a video of some very young nigerian high school students who were seen smoking "shisha" ..the students are very young and should all be less than sixteen years old....
You can watch the video here and read the news
So after watching the video I felt so heartbroken that such is happening in our society, who or what should be blamed for what those young girls were doing in that video,Bad parenting??or media influence??or peer pressure??
As for me I think there is an alarming rate of moral decadence in our society and now abnormal things are becoming normal to alot of people.....
Any factor could have contributed to the behaviours of those young kids and one cannot certainly say the exact factor that caused it but I believe some of these factors could have cause it and that includes bad parenting, media influence ,peer pressure,etc...
Let me start with bad parenting or let me call it "lack of parenting"...many parents these days are too busy making money and they tend to ignore their parenting role, they do not create time for their kids anymore, they do not communicate with their kids anymore, they do not know what is going on with their kids anymore, this makes the kids to communicate more with outsiders than their own parents and that leads to the kids to be misled by those strangers....our kids are supposed to be our friend and they should be able to communicate freely with us without fear, but when the parents do not even have time for the kids then of course there will be lack of friendship and communication.....yeah I know that hustling to put food on the table can make parents to become busy but we should not be too busy to be good parents to our kids....
Let me talk about "media influence"..yeah these kids are moved by what they watch on TV and when they see this smoking and drinking that is displayed on media channels ,they tend to become curious to Try what they see on TV or on the internet, that is why media has so much influence on people all over the world and has made alot of people to become a menace to the society....
Many of these kids have easy access to 18+ media displays which are inappropriate, many of them have access to porn movies,movies/programs that promote drug abuse, music videos that shows their favourite celebs smoking and drinking and these kids believe that is a good way or living and they begin to Try it and feel better.....this has to really stop or else it will keep increasing the moral decadence in our society.....
Social media....doing more harm than good??
Social media itself was created for good purpose but sadly it is now been used for bad purposes by many people, some people have turned social media to a place where they promote nudity, drug abuse,Cybercrimes,etc...they use their social media influence to initiate the youths into various criminal acts and immoral behaviours....
These days alot of kids have access to the internet and that has made it easy for the kids to get so influenced easily especially when they meet the wrong people who become bad influence on them..
Many web platforms need to have age restrictions that should be strictly adhered to if their contents are 18+ rated....that will help to reduce the moral decadence in its own little way.....
Drug abuse have become a very common trend in the society, alot of people Over the world are into abuse of drugs and it has led to so many criminal behaviours and have led to increase in crime in the World, many crimes have been committed under the influence of drugs, some of these drugs if taken do often make the user to loose their conscience and forget who they are, they engage in acts which they would not have done if they did not take those drugs.....
The drug abuse have killed so many dreams and talents,it has destroyed the lives of so many people,it has made alot of people to feel and think less of themselves.....
Something urgent has to be done to curb this drug abuse which have become a menace to the society......
I want to hear our opinion ,what can be done to stop all the moral decadence in our society??
I am smoking weed since I am 15 still alive and I am working(also paying taxes) and an active member of society. Drug abuse as you call it is not abuse. Of course kids should not smoke shisha but I dont think that it will destroy their lives.
Bad parenting destroys lives!
When my father caught me smoking weed he tasted it and said I should change my dealer :) Thats good parenting.
Sorry I dont wann step on your toes but we cant see the things in black and white unless it is a BnW photograph...
Oh okay....
I was so sad watching the video and I must say you have mentioned the three worst factors influencing drug abuse. These three are very strong and one can be destroyed if not monitored properly.
Parents most times are the cause. They don't have time for their children and they claim to be busy at work not to spend time on their children and their education.
I think if parents and society cooperates and discipline every child involved in drug abuse, it will stop.
Some parents do not want the society to discipline their children and they watch them spoiling away their lives.
They are not playing their role well as a parent yet they do not want their children to be disciplined, isn't that stupidity...??
It is the collective efforts of parents and society that brings the best in children. I hope they understand this
I hope so too....
I saw the video yesterday too,it happened in Nigeria, the question is who was recording those young girls??could the person be the one who initiated those girls??obviously if you watch the video you will notice they were In someone's house and the owner of the house should be questioned too and the person recording the video too...
Me gustó mucho tu publicación. Excelente apreciación
I grew up with a lot of friends who smoked weed every day as teenagers .... they seem to have destroyed their Brains ... but maybe it was something else in the weed ? Who knows.
This moral decadence comes from the United States (California), through Hollywood films that were previously limited to a part of the world and now with the internet is spread through social media.
I believe that in theory it was necessary to heavily regulate the social networks that each country in the world, saying what these social media can and cannot do, as these social media use algorithms to manipulate the population. Or even create a firewall that restricts the internet.
However, nowadays it is increasingly easy for people to circumvent some state regulation, so the only option left is a quality school education, given that parents may not have time or do not want to take care of their children.
China seems to have found a way to put an end to moral decay by putting children to study for 15 hours a day, if they don't have free time, then they won't do anything wrong.
See below how is the day-to-day studying in China.
Hmmm good quality education is the key....I agree with you ...
Jeez you know that China as a role model is so freaking not hive at all...
I knew that I had to say at the end that I do not support the Chinese dictatorial system... But the author asked "what can be done to stop all the moral decadence in our society??", so I wanted to show how China did it.

They made Cannabis legal here in Canada... but the government allows 97 different toxic pesticides... this stuff not only rots your brain it also rots your lungs and everything else.
We need to address the underlying issues instead of resorting to knee-jerk prohibitions.
What are those issues? I am not sure, but I have some ideas. This is from a US perspective. Your mileage may vary.
The school system kills the desire to learn and subjects kids to an oppressive scheduled regime rife with bullies. This gives kids something they need to escape, with many resorting to chemicals.
The labor laws imposed to protect kids from exploitative labor practices often prevents them from getting any jobs or independence at all.
The news media is full of gloom and doom, politicians are constantly pushing agendas, and our individual power to respond is small. Despair can result. Drugs and alcohol offer an escape.
Family structures and societal institutions like churches and clubs are crumbling. Kids often have no support systems.
In US cities, progressive schemes like housing programs have created a new de facto segregation plan for minorities, cutting them off from economic opportunities. Meanwhile, prohibition laws drive violent black markets, exacerbating the problems they were supposed to solve.
You have made great points, and I agree with your opinion...
