So today I'll be talking about the thief of our time gramatically known as procrastination.

What is procastination? Procastination is the act of prolongiy, delaying or pushing forward what ought to be done now to a later period. An example of procastination is knowing you have a presentation to be done next week and instead of preparing ahead, you tell yourself I have a whole week to myself to prepare and you keep saying I'll do it tomorrow, I'll do it tomorrow till you have just a day left. Even at that, procastination still won't make you start the preparing at an early hour, it can make you wait till you have few hours left to the deal day before preparing. Procastination is a thief that leaves you disorganized and most times with unpleasant result.

What are the causes of procastination?

One of the causes of procastination is
laziness. Yes when you're unwilling to do what you ought to do at a particular time, the end result is procastination.

Another cause is perfectionism. Who is a perfectionist? It is a person who is unwilling to settle for anything that is not of high standard. Perfection is an unrealistic standard that is impossible to achieve. This in turn leads to fear of failure. Instead of putting in their effort to achieve the little they can at that moment, they prefer to wait for the perfect moment which never arrives.

Another cause of procastination is avoidance. Yes, when you avoid to do what you're supposed to do at that particular moment, it eventually leads to procastination. Procastinator prefers spending more time on other things that are not productive in other to shy away from things they're supposed to do.

Another cause of procastination is low self-esteem. Low self esteem is looking down on yourself. When you start to look down on yourself that you can't achieve a particular thing, procastination set in. You begin to push forward that thing instead of raising your head high and doing it.

Another cause of procastination is waiting till the last moment. Popularly know as # eleventh # hour. Some people believe that they can work under pressure or even go as far as believing that pressure makes them work faster, and such believe leads to procastination.

How do I stop procastination?

To stop procastination is not an easy task. It requires a lot of determination. Stopping procastination is not just a word of the mouth, it requires an effort.
Here are some of the steps to take to stop procastination.

Limit the time you spend in your comfort zone. Your comfort might be your phone, your PC , your favourite game, your bed and so on. You don't have to spend the whole day on your PC playing video game. Set time limit for everything you do.

Plan your day ahead. Always plan your ahead, to avoid unnecessary surprise that leads to procastination. Planning your day ahead also gives you a glint of how your day is going to be.

Work on your self esteem and build your confidence.

Say positive things to yourself. Make use of words like I can do, let me give it a trial, how about I do it this way instead of using words like I can't do it, it's too difficult.

If you want to overcome procastination, you have to resist challenge. There are different challenges rocking our day to day activities, you just have to raise your head up high and don't allow those challenges to swallow your efforts.

Keep records of everything you do and things you have to do.

Learn to manage your time. This is a very very important. You can't overcome procastination if you can't even manage your time well.
