I do hope to grow old while remaining healthy and active. This post reminds of the first time I mentioned the concept of a nursing home to a Cambodian friend. I'm fluent in Khmer, but realized when I was approaching this topic, I didn't have a vocab word for it, and that's because nursing homes don't really exist in Cambodia, especially in the way they do in the western world.
People just ride their bicycles and stay active until they turn to dust, and if they get "frail" their children look after them. Most Cambodians feel the concept of a nursing home is absolutely savage, and I don't necessarily disagree.
yeah we have to remain active, so many people just give up unfortunately. I know in some cases some people need nursing homes, but i wish there was an alternative, there are not good places to end your days in. So sad x
