The train journey was more pleasant as the weather was mostly cloudy all the way. When the sunshine was strong, thd whole train would be heating up. I met a nice lady traveling on her own to Laos. Her luggage was so heavy that I had to help her lifting it on to the luggage shelf. She told me she’s an artist so she had paints and materials for painting while on holiday. Later on I found out that she’s half Irish and Scottish. No wonder I couldn’t make out her very strange accent though I suspected she’s Irish. But I had never met an Irish traveling alone in Thailand.
By the time my tuk-tuk hit the road along the promenade in town, the sky was heavy with dark clouds. I prayed that the rain would come after we arrived at the house. But it starting drizzling when we were about half way to the country road. The rain poured down when we were five minutes away from the house. I was so glad to be under the roof and surrounded by green trees. The tuk-tuk driver woukd be soaked wet by the time he reached his home.
The first orange cat that ran up the stairs to greet me was Kwan. She acted like a small child crying out for attention and complaining about being left alone by me too often. She’s getting very expressive and talkative. Had she been able to speak my language, I would have no way of winnjng her arguments! I had to massage her and comfort her for about ten minutes before I could get on with unpacking. Kwan is always a loving and gentle cat with deep attachment to her brother and the house. She would stay and look after the house while Joan went on his hunting expedition for the several hours.
Joan would be around the nearby fields trying to hunt some field mouse. When he heard the noises I made in the house, he would be running back home to greet me. Recently I have noticed that he started talking to me more often. Joan has always been a very quiet cat with ‘aristocratic’ aloofness. He seemed to have lofty thoughts about life and the world as he has been listening to lots of videos on world affairs with me. So he thought he shouldn’t be bothered by trivial matters as he would rather be pondering about possible solutions to political conflicts around the world. He thought too hard and for long hours. That’s why Joan needed about twelve hours’ sleep everyday.
On the other hand, Kwan wasn’t interested in other peoples’ problems. She thought about keeping her family safe and warmth in secure surroundings. Kwan couldn’t handle philosophical questions so politics would seem like Martian language to her. So, she seemed to sleep very deeply without troubling mind about world affairs. Lately I was so surprised to see Kwan standing up against Joan when he wanted to sleep on her spot. She was making noises and yelling like crazy. I had to calm her down and carried Joan away to his usual sleeping chair.
This week I was quite shocked to see my cats looking round like beer barrels. They looked so funny with smaller heads sticking out of beer barrels or water tanks. So, I decided to cut down their food everyday though they still got fed according to their habitual intervals. I realised that they just eat every time I was in the kitchen. Though they were not hungry, they knew they would get some snacks. So they just sat and waited until they got their snacks.
I knew it would be very difficult to change their conditioning, I decided to give them very little amount of biscuits or snacks. This was to satisfy the feeding rituals and they were quite satisfied that they got to eat something. On the second day, I could see that both cats became smaller and seemed lighter. I was glad that my tricks worked out quite well.
But this morning Joan came back from his hunting trip in the night. He refused to have breakfast! He looked alright with no fever but his fur was wet by last night heavy downpour. I touched his belly, it was full solid. So, Joan probably had a big field mouse last night. Hd was weary from his hunting trip and went to sleep the whole day. Kwan slept in the basket by herself last night.
The weather seemed to be getting cooler earlier this year. The daytime temperature has also dropped, we had a shorter simmer heat this year. The monsoon rains arrived four weeks early so winter would probably be colder this year too. These cats were so lucky to be in the countryside with green fields, birds and fresh clean air. In the evening, they liked to sit in the front yard observing nature and the dirt road. I knew I have been very lucky to have these two orange cats to guard the house and keep me company. I prayed that they would remain healthy, safe and happy living at this house for many years.
Wishing you peace, good health and prosperity.
Stay strong and cheerful.
Cute your cat is
Thank you very much. Glad you like my fat cats.
Happy Caturday! Your cats are looking happy, healthy and well fed lol! It is easy to see how much they love you :)
Oh! Yup! Too well fed! It’s very difficult putting them on a little diet. I had spoiled them in the past.
Hope you’ll be posting again soon.
